How businesses face corruption

Not sure if members are aware but our LocalCircles survey on business corruption in India has had tens of millions of views in last 3-4 days:

This happened in the context of a corruption by Chennai customs from an entrepreneur who decided to shut down his business.

These surveys by LocalCircles many of them are highly valuable. Circle members should make it a point to participate and share them on their social media with relevant communities. Thats how change can come.

This corruption survey was tweeted by many business people and Ministry of Finance has ordered a formal enquiry into the allegations more

66% of businesses still paying bribery on one or more occasions

Ease of Doing Business survey: 83% of bribes were paid it in cash and 17% paid it in kind (gifts or favours); 54% of businesses surveyed indicated they were forced to pay bribes

Corruption remains a significant challenge for businesses in India: ~66% of firms surveyed admitted to paying bribes in the last year. The corruption takes many forms: forced payments, payments for faster processing, cash/gifts, across many departments. It imposes costs, creates risk, distorts competition, and undermines the investment climate. Improvements are happening (digitisation helping, some decline in transactions/value), but major gaps remain. Both businesses and governments have roles: firms need robust internal controls; governments need process reform, transparency and enforcement. more

Most of approvals are given by State governments which are deadly corrupt. PM cannot check corruption at district level where officers are posted on the recommendations of local MLA or halqa chief ( area chief) of ruling party to ensure safe hafta/monthly vassoli. Even for transfers of all employees to the place of their choice, huge bribe is paid in cash or kind. Sexual favors are also taken. There is no hope of reduction in corruption unless every service is put under e service in all States/ UTs. more

whichever govt is there all revenue depts of govt are filled with corruption it is surprising how the various depts under govt functions.Also politicians also are so corrupt and they get percentage commission for all the work in their constituencies no wonder all of them become crorepathis after becoming it more

The following ideas should be considered in the Indian circumstances of proliferation of Corruption . 1. Leaders of Opposition to Corruption as well as Leaders of Peoples' Opposition to Corruption should be "Elected & Selected" on par with National General Elections Method . 2. Indian Corruption Data Analysis & Indian Corruption Data Banks need to be glorified , improved and propagated much more frequently in India. more
