Govt’s new challan rules will cause chaos

Govt is planning New Draft Rules If The Traffic e-Challan is Remain Unpaid For 3 Months

• Driving License Suspension
• Higher Insurance Premium

Sounds good till you learn that in most metros now challan is auto generated and dispatched to the address the vehicle was registered at. Most vehicle owners dont necessarily live at the address they registered their vehicle at because of move. Bought a place instead of renting earlier etc etc.

Now in govt records a challan has been shipped but many would have never gotten. Than one fine day police catches you and asks for driving licence. You give it and the policeman runs it in the system to tell you its been suspended due to non payment of challan.

There should be proper consultation before implementation. Govt should hire LC to do a consultation and survey. more

Government should keep their records updated and follow up any action taken by them. more
Agree that this type of order will cause chaos.. Before implementing, basic infrastructure has to be strenthened. Even after payment of challan the database is not updated. Many challans are generated because of faulty lights. For e challans, matter has to be disposed off by ecourts and not by district courts....imagine plight of a person on long distance highway crossing 4-5 states/ districts and having echallan due faulty lights.... more
RTO authority's records are not updated and there lies the problem. Vehicle owners also don't give their correct mobile number or it is changed or correct mail id. Authorities should have an OTP based system. However, easier said than done. Nevertheless, in this digitised era, things should be possible. more
I would like to point some things regarding this change. The change that Government has brought is welcome and long overdue. We need to be more strict to punish rule breakers and make driving safer in India. We are going towards more automation for tracking violations and making it corruption free due to the large volumes. Even the SC wants more automation. Now regarding the challan delivery: 1) The onus is on you to update the RTO when there is change in your address. 2) Your mobile and email should also be updated, many of the time the alerts are issued on these mediums(if they are available in RTO records) 3) You can use Apps like mParihavan to check pending challans against your vehicle. I make it a habit to check this regularly to ensure that I dont miss out on any challan. I franky dont see what is the issue here. more
In this digital world Email and SMS notifications should be fine for alerts/ updates more
