Flight Shutdown Survey is important

LocalCircles Manager has put in a highly relevant poll this morning about what should happen with international and domestic flights. Everyone read this background below from a friend and then vote on way forward. I think how we handle flights will determine how this omicron pans out in India.

Even as Kerala is on alert in view of the danger posed by the new Omicron variant of the coronavirus, it has come to light that a man who tested positive for it after he arrived from Africa ignored the mandated precautions and moved around visiting restaurants and a mall.

The contact list of this COVID-19 patient has expanded substantially after the health authorities quizzed him in detail. The health authorities are in the process of tracing all his contacts since arrival and charting out a route map for the public. All individuals on the contact list have been asked to report to the health authorities.

Since, the patient arrived in Kerala from Congo which falls outside the list of high-risk countries calling for mandatory quarantine period, he was under self-observation. He went out during the self-observation period, flouting the norms laid by the Centre for individuals visiting the country.

But he showed symptomsfor the disease while in quarantine at home. Tests revealed he was positive for the Omicron variant. Soon, he was shifted to the COVID-19 treatment centre at Ambalamugal.

He was not tested at the airport as the Central African country is not classified as a high-risk country for Omicron.

Omicron count so far

As of now, five cases of Omicron have been reported from Kerala.

The condition of those who were infected with Omicron in Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam is satisfactory. However, the State Health Department would conduct COVID-19 tests on those who showed symptoms from among the contact list of those who were infected with Omicron. The blood samples of those who were found positive in these tests would be sent for genome testing.

The State had detected its first case of the new coronavirus variant in Ernakulam when a person who had returned from the UK tested positive. Among the four new cases reported on Wednesday are the wife and mother-in-law of this person.

Of the remaining two, one was a Thiruvananthapuram native who had returned from the UK and the other was the Ernakulam native who had returned from Congo.

Meanwhile, the Central Government team, which is on a visit to Kerala to assess the higher COVID-19 cases in the State, is set to meet the top officials of Kerala, including the State Health Department Director on Thursday. more

Kerala people are there all over the world. So imported infections are not an uncommon fact be it Covid or Zika or any others. Getting paranoid and stopping flights is not the solution. People travel back to see their families and for family emergencies and not just for pleasure. more
Prepare with the information. Dont be fearful. Lack of information and preparedness drives fear more
So sad to see we have only six "experts" out of the 1014 viewers of this long post. Scaring people is another entertainment .It looks like Kerala was clean till this guy came from CONGO. The Chief Minister of Kerala should resign immediately. Why not? more
Before boarding the flight for international destinations must carry negative report taken within 24 hours of the departure. Flight fare must include fee for RT PCR test at the arrival airport which must be fixed by the regulatory authorities of respective nations. Necessarily all international passengers must undergo the test on arrival and passengers with positive test report must be kept at the government centers. Other passengers must undergo self quarantine at their homes religiously. This will help the spread of the virus greatly. Shuting down the operations is not a wise call and will hurt the economy. We have to live and act with the virus which has become order of the day more
Did you OR do you worry about Influenza like this? NO. This Covid lock down, flights shut down is hurting people and economy in many ways. We need to stop making this a fear driven issue. Please don't let China win. They did this to the world and they are laughing all the way to the communist palaces. No flights shut down, no school shut downs and listen to the logic and not fear. I have said this many times, places that have shut down and had lock down did NOT have low cases like state of New York, California, Michigan, Illinois. Places that did not have shut down have had low cases of Covid and are doing well economically too. Please STOP STOP this issue and let people shelter and protect at risk people but go on to normalize the rest. more
