I believe that elected MP, MLAs & Councillors need to build a stronger connect with the local community. CPIM had done this exceedinly well during 80's in West Bengal (but unfortunately, they used this local connect for destructive ends). Though I do not agree with their ideology, it would be worth emulating a few points from their approach. Elected representatives need to spare at least one day in a month to meet the local residents. Swachh Bharat Abhiyan can be one of the means of engaging the residents on this day. These group activities need to be followed by discussion with the residents and the MP/MLAs?Corporators need to provide regular feedback about status of the key points discussed in the meetings. The various sectors in Gurgaon can be grouped into 7-8 major clusters. This means that at least once in every 2 to 3 months, the elected representatives can meet residents of the same cluster. Engagement with local community is an ongoing affair. It cannot be done just before the elections. As active citizens, we also need to organize ourselves to implement some of the initiatives being driven by Modiji. Local elected representatives can help in this as well as provide resources and administrative help to get the ball rolling. more
