Eliminate from root
Mostly what I see in the suggestion is how to cut the branches of a grown tree to dismantle the tree (Plastic). Is it going to work? Definitely not.
We need to remove it from the root.
Imagine if no plastic comes out from the factories. All plastic producing industries are closed. How will anybody is going to use plastic.
And human mind is very adaptive and will definitely find an alternate solution.
I remember my childhood days where there was no plastic and my parents managed it effectively and I don't remember anybody talking about waste those days as most of the materials used was biodegradable.
Lets say there is a rat in a house and is causing all sorts of problems; cutting cables, wires, eating grains, etc. I compare the plastic(Plastic producing industries) to a rat. Lets say I don't want to harm the rat but still I want to protect all my belongings. Is it going to work?
The simplest solution is to kill the rat and all other problems are solved automatically without even doing anything about it.
Let the government take the first step in closing all the plastic manufacturing industries. It is even threatening to know that plastic engineering/technology degrees are being permitted/running.
I don't see a solution in a) penalizing pity shopkeepers many of even don't understand the adversities of using plastic but are barely acting with the resource available to them or b) even educating the masses about plastic menace as it is almost impossible to completely eliminate plastic use(Unless removed from root) as 99.99 percent of all products available in the market comes with plastic wrap/packaging.
If our Honorable Prime Minister can eliminate this one root cause of plastic; the plastic producing industries, I think is greatest of his achievements and all the other dream projects of him like Swachh Bharat, Cleaning Ganga river etc. will become a byproduct of this one achievement. more

Lets be practical... can we think of our lives without plastic ?? It is inextricable from our lives. It is a wonderful material if used in the right way. What we are saying is that I cannot drive straight on the road.. I might get hurt hence we need to cut the trees along the road. We need to get better educated on proper use of plastic. If used in the right way and of the right quality.. You would say the inventor of plastic needs to be given a Nobel Prize. I see similar arguments with Gutka, tobacco ban.. If we cannot control our urge why blame someone else for it. If I have the right morals and values nothing can corrupt me. Instead of asking the govt to ban plastic we need to demand them for proper regulation and controls on the quality and use of plastic. That way we can see how that wonder material can add value to our lives. The biggest polluter is the plastic bag. We can do some very small steps that go a long way. We need to carry a cloth bag in our pocket so that we avoid the use pf plastic bag completely. I am all for plastic use but in the correct way and of the correct quality. more

absolutely correct human mind will defently find some alternatives, in fact i see in local markets today the day UP government has banned plastic vendor's are very cautious regarding selling goods in plastic bags. Vendor's including thela's are either not selling their goods to the customer or they are selling to those having their own carry bags that people are now adopting bio-degradable bags. Day before yesterday i could not buy vegetables as I was not having any carry bags and thela wala was not having any plastic or jute carry bags. God step by government i really appreciate it just people's mindset needs to be change. more

Plastic ban alone will not work unless production of plastic products is stopped and the factories are closed down. Don't worry about the unemployment because then the same factories will come up with eco-friendly solutions which will be in everyone's interests. more
