E20 petrol mandate - why is the road minister so closed

Despite many people reporting that they are having low mileage and increased vehicle maintenance issues, the Road Minister Gadkari seems hellbent to implement and this could lead to a political deterioration for his party.

Public attitude has changed a bit and they are asking about why is this being pushed like never before.

See how mileage has reduced for people and maintenance costs increased for many.

I never thought instead of listening to public Gadkari would call them petrol lobby representatives. What a tragic fall. more

The issue is not only about E-20. Petrol was gradually mixed with 5% and then 10% ethanol over a decade. This meant that the existing vehicles were ready to take it. Now, in secrecy, the ministry clandestinely increases the ethanol % from 10% to 20%, and they want to increase it further to 27%. Vehicles that are not designed for this kind of blend are going to suffer. This represents a significant loss of public capital. A well-intentioned government would have allowed multiple fuel options and a phased and planned changeover so that people did not get hurt. However, the more one sees it, the more it is obvious that a politician's self-interest overrides everything. This is a fraud on the people. Hinda has claimed that its vehicles made in India after 2009 support E-20, though there will be a loss of mileage. Other manufacturers are not so clear and have made diplomatic statements for commercial interests. But, if people scrap and buy new vehicles, why wouldn't a manufacturer be happy? The lending agencies, like banks, will also be happy. The government will be happy as it gets loads of taxes. It's the ignorant customer who is going to be ripped off. And bhaktas and paid media will keep on with their no-brainer rants on social media. more
DecaThe real reason why India used diesel in private cars profited automobile companies who switched to dieselising car ? - https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/business/india-business/suvs-guzzling-cheap-dieselcriminal-jairam/articleshow/6916729.cms "Ramesh, known to be upfront with his views, said at a UN conference on environment that the subsidy on diesel was fuelling the demand for SUVs. He strongly pitched for reform in the diesel policy, saying the real beneficiaries of the subsidy were owners of BMWs, Benzs and Hondas'', not the farmers. Ramesh also called for penalties on diesel-driven SUVs. Put a penalty on the type of cars you don't want to see on the roads, which are diesel-driven cars, SUVs... We cannot ask people to buy or not buy a particular car. But through an effective fiscal policy, we can certainly have an impact,'' he said. The minister said fuel subsidy should be restricted to LPG and kerosene. The transport sector contributes 7.5% of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the country and this is expected to rise to 15% in 15 to 20 years, he added" https://www.dailypioneer.com/2025/sunday-edition/---india---s-ethanol--journey-is-unstoppable---.html "Some lobbies with vested interests are actively attempting to create confusion and derail India’s ethanol revolution. However, such efforts will not succeed. The E20 transition is already firmly underway, backed by strong policy support, industry readiness, and public acceptance — and there is no turning back. Elaborating on the benefits of E20, the Minister said it results into reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, improves air quality, enhances engine performance, and has already led to over `1.4 lakh crore in foreign exchange savings. He pointed out that 2G ethanol refineries in Panipat and Numaligarh are converting agricultural residues like parali and bamboo into ethanol, providing a win-win solution for clean fuel, pollution control, and farmer income. He further highlighted the remarkable growth of maize-based ethanol — from 0 per cent in 2021–22 to 42 per cent this year — calling it a transformational shift." more
CHECK YOUR OWN VEHICLE. IN MY HONDA JAZZ 2015 THERE IS NO ISSUE. I GET km/LIT AVERAGE on HIGHWAY. EVEN SCOOTER THERE IS NO ISSUE OF MAINTENANCE OR AVERAGE. more
Honda vehicles are exceptional. Jazz is discontinued, and the other vehicles don't even figure in the top 10. Honda is the only manufacturer whose vehicles post-2009 are all E-20 ready. However, even the manufacturer states that there will be a loss of mileage with an ethanol mix, so it's not clear whether what you say is completely factual. more
I think siam and arai the governing automotive bodies need to make a statement stating that it is not going toeffect their vehicle performance and have ARAI given the certification of the machine for use of e20 blended fuel or only gasoline since ARAI does vigourous testing with various kind of fuel and then gives clearance. We need to have a clean paper on this and if this is going to reduce our gasoline import bill then the benefit is not getting passed on to the consumer.A white paper with respect to performance with 100% gasoline and e 20 fuel need to given by the test authorities to build confidence to consumers rather than blindly force it on to the consumers .There are lot of imported cars like from benz/audi/jaguar/bmw etc and i doubt whether they have done any testing with this kind of fuel but since this e20 blending is with only gasoline and these companies operate in the diesel segment hence may not be bothered looks like unless they have anygasoline versions. more
fuel lines, injectors, tank over time and engine wear will be actually affected. This minister is fooling us. NITI ayog also mentioned this information. more
