Dog Lovers, Dog Haters, and the Neutral/Unknowing :
Dog Lovers
Dog lovers are those who keep dogs within their own premises—some in their compounds or enclosures, while others allow them inside their homes, even sharing their beds and furniture. These pets, often given fancy names like Tommy, Ginger, Pepper, Mellow, Fido, or Julie, are familiar with the owners’ friends and remain friendly. True dog lovers not only provide food and shelter but also ensure their pets are vaccinated, cleaned, and trained to behave politely around visitors. Some even take their dogs on regular walks, carrying plastic bags to collect and dispose of waste properly.
Street Dog Haters
These are people who have had terrifying encounters with stray dogs—whether being chased while walking, cycling, or riding two-wheelers, or suffering painful dog bites that required a series of injections. Such experiences leave them deeply fearful of dogs.
Notably, these stray dogs are not the well-cared-for pets of dog lovers. In fact, in many Western countries, dogs are not allowed to roam freely on the streets. All pet dogs are licensed, and when taken outside, they are kept on a leash by their owners.
Dog Feeders
Feeding stray dogs has become a popular trend, but many so-called "dog feeders" provide only food without considering the dogs’ shelter, vaccination, or hygiene. Their involvement is often limited to a brief moment of satisfaction or social recognition. In contrast, responsible dog lovers ensure proper care, including feeding, cleaning, and training.
Stray Dog Crisis & Public Safety
Metropolitan corporations, municipal councils, and local authorities often face resistance from organizations advocating for street dogs. However, these groups sometimes overlook the reality of aggressive and even dangerous stray dogs that chase and attack pedestrians, especially women and children, making public spaces unsafe.
The issue of stray dogs requires balanced policies—ones that prioritize both animal welfare and public safety. Addressing this problem effectively means ensuring stray population control, responsible pet ownership, and proper urban planning to prevent conflicts between humans and animals.
