Deploying addl ULB Revenues due to Demonetisation

Because of the demonetisation program, most urban civic bodies are experiencing significantly increased tax revenue collection. Citizens are able to settle their pending dues in old currency notes.

Below are your key inputs on how municipalities and other ULBs should effectively deploy this capital effectively to improve services to citizens and reform themselves. If you have any additional specific inputs, please share.

We look forward to your inputs!

Demonetisation Windfall: How municipalities should utilize the revenue boost effectively per citizens

1. Municipality should build more water tanks to ensure water supply
2. Water pipelines should be laid in areas where it still does not exist
3. Garbage collection mechanism should be improved
4. Cleaning of roads with brooms should be stopped as it spreads dust in the atmosphere and vacuum based machines should be bought to do the job
5. Segregation of waste should be improved and differently coloured dustbins should be installed around the cities
6. Some money could also be spent on educating people about segregating waste at source
7. Maintenance work of changing old and rusted pipelines should be done so that system is geared up for the peak demand months
8. All major roads in the cities should be repaired
9. The drainage system should be improved and all the open drains should be covered
10. Pre-fabricated mobile toilets should be bought and installed in all major market places and bus stands
11. The existing public toilets should be repaired and improved
12. All property records should be digitised
13. More primary and secondary schools should be opened in urban/semi-urban villages
14. Safety gear and latest cleaning equipment should be purchased for municipal workers
15. Every municipality must appoint a dedicated citizen engagement or social media person with authority to work with citizens
16. Every municipality should get IT equipped and track citizen complaints electronically and update complaint status over the internet in real time. more

The list is good enough. Hope the local bodies, which are by and large corrupt, take up a few of these. more
1. All aged/polluting vehicles be replaced. 2. Necessary modern equipment for swatchbharat 3.Number of dustbins ,waste collection vehicles and man power be enhanced. 4.All municipal offices and places under their control in the city be cleaned more
This is really a optimum and pertinent list of advisory but I think this list is that relevant for the officials of Municipality rather than the Intent that is required to be infused in workers of This Department. They have some inherent issues with this department but if started today we will find our objective in the time to come. more
The revenue thus collected due to Demonetisation should first be protected from the notorious corrupted in Municipalities who are very intelligent and may resorts to the unproductive expenditure. The people at ULBs are requires the implementation of all the schemes of "SWATCH BHARTH' and the Collectors to monitor. more
Segregation of waste is a must. But or city is lagging behind other states. We needmore proactive measures by Corporation and education of common people.More bins for separation of wastes is required. What is Kolkata corporation doing with the increased revenue? more
