Addressing Child Trafficking

An estimated 135,000 children are trafficked in India on an annual basis. These include trafficking for sex, domestic labour, organized begging, etc.

With the availability of this circle - Surakshit Bharat and other phone based reporting, how do you suggest the citizens and police work together in reporting and addressing child trafficking in India.

We will compile your inputs and work with stakeholders across the board to see how they can be implemented.

Major change in the attitude of general public as well as the Police is needed. As of now, majority of us try to avoid to involve ourselves in such matters which are ultimately to be handled by the police, due to having a long list of instances of police harassment of those who voluntarily extended all assistance & supports to the victims of trafficking, accidents etc. The government has different kind of intelligent services & agencies and it should not be difficult for them to identify the people & organisations involved in trafficking for running different kind of illegal & criminal activities and to keep close watch on them and initiate action their against on time. Judicial process against those involved in such heinous crimes must be completed expeditiously and the criminals must be awarded rigorous punishment. more
The Quantum of punishment for child trafficking should be increased. The law should be amended to put the onus of proving not guilty on the culprit instead of the state which has to prove guilty. This will make it more difficult to get bail and also for acquittal. more
1. Build awareness among the segments where kids are usually targeted other than the ones directly kidnapped. 2. Have SOS number given thru media, mobile service provider to be accessed even in zero balance like emergency and everybody should know the number. 3. The police force should use their sources to find these network and actually be proactive so that its prevented beforehand. 4. All local police station, civic bodies should join hands in this. 5. A road map for future prevention of the same should be taken simultaneously. 6. Children & welfare ministry should allocate fund on rehabilitation of such kids to normal life once they are restored. Police is responsible for the crime abatement. But I feel we can help them. When found in doubtful or unacceptable circumstances, one should take the pain to report to the police over the phone( Phone Numbers to be displayed in different places). Now a days every body is using smart phone use of whatsapp can carry the information to directly to the concerned police. more
Trafficking is the greatest crime in society, country and on earth: innocent people are not only tortured but crippled for life, losing freedom, human dignity, human rights and everything. This is much more criminal than raping. Human beings are sold. The perpetrators should be penalised for life, life imprisonment with clause that they must never be freed, should be the minimum punishment. I strongly feel that every government through their police and other services should stop such happenings. Child begging may be brought to the notice of the police and police must inform the person reporting about the action taken with proof. Brothels must be checked and anyone remaining there as a resultof trafficking must be rescued with appropriate punishment given to the traffickers. Yes, police should give their mail Id and website in public for contacts; for this for day to day traffic violation and other crimes. More public contacts will bring down crimes but every report and query must have to be responded otherwise it is futile to write and do such thing wasting time. more
