Current Role of Ward Councillor

To work towards improving engagement of Urban Local Bodies with Citizens, we would like to understand from you the role that your Ward Councillor has played in cleanliness/civic issues of your Ward.

For everyone's information, most cities of India are divided into wards with a large city like Chennai having 200 wards.

Once we understand the current state, we will have a seperate discussion on what should be the ideal role of a Ward Councillor.

We look forward to your inputs!

Once if a person is elected as a councillor we must conduct a meeting once in a month in our ward and we must give felicitations and appreciate his activities. At the time of giving felicitations we mustforth our grievances and we must sujest someways to solve the problems. It is of our duty to praise him till the next election. All our civic problems will be solved only through him. more
in our kalyaninagar area pune, the residents are trying to work hand in hand with pmc and also go for ward office meetings, but the implementation is still slow and there is no specific and strict system. there should be a set and continuous path so the cycle keeps moving and things are taken care without any hurdles. more
they are drain on tax payers money. manipulating contracts for personal gain , going on junkets, buying laptops for themselves, doubtr if they know how to use them. more
Ward counsellors are unconcerned about the cleanliness drive or developmental activities of their wards. Their only concern is how to make money and further their personal interests. Their institution is required to be made responsive by enactment of laws and deduction of remuneration. more
The role of our Ward Councillor is like one IAS Officer, sitting in the office and not visiting the area for any improvement. They are busy in new work attended by the contractors, who pay them commission. more
