CORE PRIORITIES MUST NOT BE OVERLOOKED IN FAVOR OF FANCY ADDITIONS:

The Indian Railways has a proud legacy that has evolved significantly since its inception. Every government, over time, has contributed in its own way to bring the Railways to where it stands today. But even now, certain core priorities must not be overlooked:

Passenger Convenience and Hygiene
Safety and an Accident-Free Journey – Expert opinions must be implemented to the fullest extent.

Punctuality of Trains – The timeliness of ordinary trains should not be compromised to accommodate premium trains.

Let’s also not forget the economically weaker sections, senior citizens, women, and children—travel should be inclusive, safe, and comfortable for all.

The recent buzz about installing ATMs on trains seems more like a distraction from pressing issues such as the long-overdue modernization of our signaling systems—one of the key factors behind frequent rail accidents.

While we already have a range of mobile payment options, what's truly needed is to ensure that existing ATMs at railway stations are well-stocked with cash at all times. It's not uncommon for travelers to find them empty, leaving them stranded. A traveler heading to the station, especially with luggage in tow, may not have the time or ability to search for an alternative ATM. This is a basic facility that needs urgent attention.

The post, titled "Messed-up Railway Priorities", is indeed an eye-opener. It calls on the public to offer constructive suggestions that can truly make the Railways better for everyone. - Jai Hind! more

Punctuality of trains is most important. On 17.4.25 I planned to travel from Bangalore (KSR) to Mysore by train. When I reached the Bangalore City station around 7.30 am I observed that all the trains are delayed from 40 mnts to one hour. Finally due to delays I cancelled the visit to Mysore. Similarly trains to Tumkur and Tiptur are also delayed abnormally. Earlier there were three trains from KSR to Tumkur / Tiptur one each at 6.00 am, 6.40 am and 7.50 am. Post Corona 6.40 and 7.50 trains have cancelled. The starting from KSR at 8.45 am (originating from Mysore) invariably late between 15 minutes to half an hour. There is another train originating from Yeshwantpur at 9.15 am. Consequently this train is also delayed. There is an URGENT need to tone up the railways for punctuality, neatness, etc. I moot point I pose is if the railway minister (including state minister, dy. minister, Railway Board Members and such other top people travel to choose train by default, how would Railways react. more
Hopefully, you cancelled the ticket was there a cancellation charges ? Hope not. more
Dear Jayakumar, Thank you for sharing your insights on the core priorities for Indian Railways. I wholeheartedly agree that passenger convenience, safety, and punctuality are essential for a reliable and inclusive railway system. It is crucial to maintain these foundational aspects while also pursuing advancements and improvements. Your emphasis on the needs of economically weaker sections, senior citizens, women, and children is particularly important. I appreciate you bringing these points to the forefront. Punctuality must be the top most priority of the Railways. Recently I was going to Ahmedabad and while going it was 18 hours late and while return it was 6 hours late. No reason were given for such abnormal delays. I had to miss an important work resulting financial losses. There is absolutely no accountability by the Railways. Only cosmetic changes and propaganda will not do any good for common citizens. more
Yes first of all pl ensure passengers safety on forefront. In case of any mishap all exp should be borne by the Insurance company without any question. Secondly ensure timeliness/Cleanliness/proper hygiene of all trains. There are many incidences where you find 3rd party, i e. Vendor is creating problems in every sector of services which is unbearable. This also may be looked into. Jay Maa Bharati 🙏🙏 more
as mentioned a survey should be done to tell the IR ministry as towhat should be their priority as per travellers opinion and not what they want to do to please someone and say we have atm installed and when it does not work then slowly they will remove the same. There are better issues to be addressed than doing fancy luxury things Have atms in railway stations which is still not there in many prominent stations/IR should not waste public money in their own interests but should address issues which are beneficial to the travellers like water /toilet cleanliness and all charging points working together with fans and lights and flush tank in toilets etc .looks like IR ministry priorities are misplaced more
