Convenience Fee Capping

The LocalCircles survey on convenience fee is good in the sense it establishes everyone is paying it

Can we demand the Government RBI Consumer Dept others to cap convenience fee at higher of INR 50 or 0.5% of transaction fee. That way the common consumer has some protection. Right now ticketing hotel sites charging 599 and some times even 1000 rupees. more

Railways charges these fees anywhere from 10 Rs to 50 Rs. Please correct me if I am wrong. The charges by the Railways is wrong as we save a lot of money for the Government by doing everything ourselves. In fact, they should offer incentive of 1-2% for online booking instead of taking money from us. Similarly, when I tried to pay for Indane gas, though initially it charged only 868 Rs, when the Card statement arrived it was 875. Samjavascript:;e thing with the railways. The extra payment is taken later and we get to know about this only when the card statement arrives. more
Most of the replies do point out that the Government is not to be evoked in every situation. Such interference by the Govt not complicates the issue but also leads to more avenues for corruption. more
In my view, businesses should keep things simple, competitive to ensure that the costs of rendering service are recovered from the fee charged, instead of separately charging a convenience fee. On the other hand, we should avoid the government getting into everything and making a bigger mess of it. Public outcry will ensure that businesses structure themselves in ways to serve customers better. Let us all understand that a business has to run profitably to survive and grow. It must be remembered that if businesses dont recover the costs of providing their service, and people clamour for capping it, the business will find other ways to recover it. Socialism looks good on paper for the short-term, but someone still picks up the bills. more

Arnab's are destined to cause a nuisance. more
This is once again a socialist thinking. Who is the government to tell a private business how to do business. Indians still do not understand how wrong the government bullying is for the economical growth. Stop such silly notions. Please educate yourself in principles of economics. more
