Congrats LC members fare capping is being done

The CEO of LocalCircles Sachin Taparia apparently pushed the Minister of Aviation Ram Mohan to implement fare capping in a hurry. The Ministry just announced the move and fare capping is now ON. Congrats all Lc members. Know its been a long standing demand. below their release.

In order to protect air passengers from any form of opportunistic and predatory pricing, the Government of India has invoked its regulatory powers to ensure fair and reasonable fares across all routes affected by the disruption in Indigo's flight schedule.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation has taken serious note of public concerns regarding unusually high airfares being charged by certain airlines during the ongoing disruption.

An official directive has been issued to all airlines, mandating strict adherence to the fare caps that have now been prescribed. These caps will remain in force until the situation fully stabilises.

The objective of this directive is to maintain pricing discipline in the market, prevent any exploitation of passengers in distress, and ensure that citizens who urgently need to travel — including senior citizens, students, and patients — are not subjected to financial hardship during this period.

The Ministry will continue to closely monitor fare levels through real-time data and active coordination with airlines and online travel platforms. Any deviation from the prescribed norms will attract immediate corrective action in the larger public interest. more

The fare caps are temporary, meant to address an emergency situation — not necessarily a long-term guarantee that airfares will remain “capped” once airlines stabilise. “Under the cap” doesn’t always mean “cheap”: reports say that the cap was often pegged “to the highest fare for a typical day,” which means even fare-capped tickets might still be expensive (and often more than usual off-peak fares). more
annoucing is very easy but to ensure all airlines are following is the crux of the issue. If again similar to the earlier notification if govt sleeps then again customers will be taken for a ride. Govt should open a portal on their dgca website and display the same prominently in all airports regarding the pricing and if any airline is demanding more fare then to report the same in the dgca portal and strict action need to taken on the airline and punishment given to the airline by means of refund the complete amount to the customer which means he will travel free .This will put some kind of pressure on the airlines/ more
The Regulator must act watchdog daily and not once in while as a ritual. Lax officials be dismissed from service within 7 days. Pakki naukri culture has ruined every govt institution. The funda of PERFORM OR PERISH must apply to all from mantry to santry. more
DGCA and Aviation Ministry are responsible for this mess putting millions of passengers in great hardship and mental torture. They deserve to be fairly compensated. Mere refund of ticket money will not fo justice. more
I read that Indigo's flight disruption is due to crew shortage. How did that happen? Did the crew quit en masse? Or, did Indigo expand without planning? Good that GoI stepped in quickly to prevent price gouging by the Indian Airlines industry. Surely, any business is for making profits. But, this unethical behavior must be stopped. Congrats to the Indian Aviation Ministry. While on the subject, there must be laws for airlines to gouge 80% of the paid ticket prices when a passenger cancels the reservation, say, a day ahead of the scheduled flight. That's daytime and airway robbery. more
