Catering services in India Railways
According to Standard Menu Rates for food applicable in Trains, standard vegetarian meal are to be charged @ Rs.50. Standard rates are available at - http://contents.irctc.co.in/en/StandardMenuRates.pdf
But if we try to book meal from IRCTC e- catering website itself, meals are charged much more higher. Catering services are available at - http://www.ecatering.irctc.co.in/eCatering/af/irctc/ecatering/eCateringSearchPage.do.
I noticed 1l water bottle available for as much as Rs.30 in the name of mineral water!
So Railways should take note of it and bring some sense of accountability in its services. more

The catering service in Railway is not controlled at any point, except allowing them to sale. It is necessary that there should be supervision and inspection. more

yes it quality & rate should be finalised by committee consists of local of judges,ngos jain & other organization at all district level in india with secretary to railway minister & should sign report. more

The standard menu card must be available at each Pantry car, Station Masters office, at booking counters at free of cost . Every one knows that the vendors charge as much as they like. Every one is aware that all the concerned Railway employees are directly or indirectly involved and hence there is no control over the inflated food item rated. Where is the Administration? What is the role of the Railway Ministry? more
