BIS like water get fruits veggies tested as well
BIS says it tested water samples. I urge them to get fruits and veggies tested on same lines. A lot of the stuff we are eating is carbide ripened or colour infused and has dangerous chemicals. BIS should then hold different food depts accountable. I bet you though it wont do it. It will say its FSSAIs domains. While departments throw the responsibility on each other we continue to suffer. more

Instead of creating different entities for purposes to create only confusions, why not the government create a single department headed by a not less than the rank of a Cabinet Minister to look after all matters relating to maintenance of standard of all kind of eatables directly or indirectly affecting the health of the common man? This will eradicate the scope of escaping responsibilities of the officials concerned by shifting them to other departments, as well. The government should strictly adopt an uncompromising attitude and initiate stern action against those found guilty of dereliction of duties in carrying their duties in ensuring quality of health related consumables irrespective of the rank & file of the concerned. Unless such a policy is strictly followed by the government, there is little scope of any remarkable improvement in the matter. more

It will do good if local circle members take interest in knowing some fundamental chemistry also. It was observed by scientists that during the ripening process of fruits a (petroleum) gas namely ethylene with the formula C2H4 is produced by the fruits and that is responsible for the ripening process. That is why fruits are tied up and kept in sack like covers so that the gas do not escape. Thus ethylene gas was used for artificial ripening. In the absence of ethylene, acetylene with the formula C2H2 was discovered and is being used. In the absence of acetylene moist calcium carbide which can generate acetylene is being used. Calcium carbide is made by heating a mixture of lime stone and carbon at high temperature.Both are non-poisonous and non cancerous materials. All the volatile impurities escape during the process. Moreover calcium carbide is very sensitive to moisture by getting converted itself to lime and acetylene gas. acetylene escapes and lime remains. By simply washing the fruit with water calcium carbide gets eliminated. Except the fact it is a cheating process from the economic point of view that unripened fruits are made to appear as ripened and sell. it has no health issues. So the harassment given to fruit vendors is a sin On the other hand so many highly cancerous materials are sold as food colors and people do not even buy bakery items like laddu , jilebi etc without color. if it is made colorful by materials like sunset yellow, tartrazine etc beyond limits. So it is high time to stop the issue of artificial ripening and take up food colors. more

These kind of practices are resorted in every city by all wholesalers since they know fssai or bis people have never been actively doing anything but as mentioned above if they start doing it they will see ground realities in every city more
