ASPIRATIONS OF MIDDLE LOWER CLASS TO OWN SAMALL CARS AND EYE ON GREEN HOUSE GASSES AND MORE : m

Most of these organizations seem to merely exist under dictated norms, with little space for new voices to challenge, question, or contribute fresh ideas.

In the bigger picture, the short lifespan of cars may ultimately only boost revenues and accelerate the race toward a $5 trillion economy, which various officials and analysts project around 2027–2030. But what’s often overlooked is:

* The aspirations of the middle and lower-middle classes: Smaller, affordable family cars (like the Nano once promised) could ease ownership dreams while also helping resolve urban parking issues.

* Environmental concerns: Prioritizing smaller, fuel-efficient vehicles could curb the rise of fuel-guzzling big cars, thereby reducing pollution, carbon emissions, and greenhouse gases — factors already linked to unseasonal rains and flooding.

* Inclusivity in policy: Growth should be balanced. While enabling the advanced sectors to move ahead, policies must also give a fair push to other strata of society. - Jai Hind! more

For an industrial‑zone context (you mentioned before you work in one): many middle/lower‑middle class workers may aspire to a small car (for family mobility, comfort, status). This means commuting patterns could shift (from two‑wheelers, shared transport or public transport to private cars) which increases vehicle usage, infrastructure demand, emissions. If policy ignores the environmental dimension, we might see growth in small/cheap cars and growth in emissions — which conflicts with climate/air‑quality goals. On the flip side: there is opportunity to steer the aspirations toward more sustainable choices. For example: compact electric vehicles (EVs) or shared mobility solutions, incentivised by policy so that ownership or access to small cars doesn’t automatically mean higher fossil‑fuel use. Monitoring: Understanding how many middle/lower class households are buying cars, what type (ICE vs EV), how much they use them (commute, family use) can help craft interventions (parking policies, congestion charges, incentives for EVs, improved public transport so the car is a choice, not necessity). Equity angle: The lower income households likely still use other modes; if policy burdens (taxes, climate fines) hit them hardest (e.g., via fuel taxes) without providing alternatives, that raises fairness issues. The inequality in emissions (top emitters vs bottom) means policy should target high emitters. more
It means companies selling fuel guzzlers benefit, just like Trump’s “drill baby drill” policy and environment will suffer! The person with the least carbon footprint, the one who takes public transport, will breathe in toxic air emitted the Fortuners and Innovas emit, causing medical conditions! See on localcircles the surveys enquiring how GST passed onto consumers buying vehicles. Since implementation of new GST rates all daily need items same priced, affecting common person adversely, so how long it takes to replace labels or passed on old GST to be seen! more
Agree with environmental concerns. Profiteering automobile companies will sell more cars with lower GST being the incentive for buyers. Earlier government and companies profited from high tax revenues, and sales, now the latter with higher sale due to incentive for buyer of 18% from earlier 28% saving Rs.50,000 to Rs. 2,50,000 causing a surge in diesel vehicle sales! This would lead to increasing pollution, carbon emissions, and greenhouse gases — factors already linked to unseasonal rains and flooding. more
