Allotment of Tatkal ticket without any reason is forceful extrotion
Tatkal quota is nothing by illegal extortion of money. Who is going to verify the need of Tatkal. It can be given if somebody is admitted in hospital and you have to go, take the hospital receipt and go. Tatkal can be given to students and professional if they are going for interview of examination. Tatkal is required if a army person going to joint the duty. Tatkal can be used if someone died and you to go to attend them. Tatkal is required if senior citizen is going somewhere. Allotment of tickets by taking additional money is nothing but extortion of money from public by doing shortage of general tickets. Government extortion. Every time Tatkal is needed some people may not be in a position to spell out the reason for privacy purposes. For such people (Many of us) tatkal ticket with extra money paying will be a real help. more

Yes. When this concept was introduced, 1 additional bogie of 72 seats was attached on a train, later on, block of 6 seats in each bogie of whole train was allocated as Tatkal. But then more than 50% of total seats/berths are kept unsold 120 days when booking is opened for very 1st time on any date. Taking into consideration population of our country increasing at an alarming rate, keeping such high number of seats for Tatkal to make extra money and without any other consideration of so called 'Tatkal' need of traveller, it's definitely a loot to bring Indian Railways into profit. Also, nowadays increasing AC bogies and reducing sleeper class on trains is an additional tool to mint money. A common man is compelled to travel in AC because of non-availability of sleeper class seats on required train. more

Shrivadtavji's views are worth recommending. All the same, tatkal was introduced for any one to travel in emergency for a cause. Which means a travelker buys ticket at a higher rate and he or she would undertake journey. Such higher priced tickets are worth only in emergency. more

To curb malpractices Tatkal tickets should only be given from the booking window two hours before the departure of the train to the person travelling after verifying his ID . A separate counter should be opened only for tatkal tickets to avoid delay in booking. more
