Air Fare capping details

Thanks to all members for raising and participating on the issue of airfares capping which was implemented during Covid and removed in 2022.

LocalCircles had regularly been pursuing this issue with Government stakeholders and escalated it yesterday after many airlines started charging 3-10X the regular fare given Indigo’s disruption.

Attached are the fare caps implemented by the Government.

We thank all of you for being active in raising issues on LocalCircles and please note that every thing that you write that is of public good relevance is evaluated and considered for survey and discussion.

Thanks again! more

hope govt penalises them heavily so that they will think twice before doing it once again .Also govt should not allow it to grow and become monopoly but ask airindia/akasa spice jet to expand operations more
Capping only covers base fare — final cost can still increase due to taxes, airport charges, or surcharges. If demand is high and base fares themselves are already elevated (e.g. due to cost pressures, fuel costs, holiday demand), the “capped fare” may still be high. This is — for now — a temporary measure. Once airlines stabilise, there’s no guarantee fares will remain capped. Fare-capping doesn’t address other issues: delays, cancellations, cancellations of flights, poor service — only pricing. So the underlying problems may persist even if fares are controlled. more
Government controlled? Taxpayer paid for Air India losses when it was a government airline. more
It is very clear that when all other airlines were following rules set by govt Indigo with its monopoly attitude took the govt for a ride and govt were helpless in this whereas govt should have asked all airlines to submit the progress made by them every quarter and not wait for the fag end when govt could not do anything but delay the implementation.Indigo took the govt to ransom and blackmailed them into accepting what they wanted.these kind of tactics clearly shows they were not planning to implement their rules and were waiting till last date to blackmail govt in agreeing to their conditions which is what they wanted to cancel the govt notifications because of their monopoly situation where as other airlines did not resort to this /Govt need to take very strict action on indigo and fine them a big amount and ask their ceo /cfo and other people to resign. Also since so many passengers also were taken for a ride. Govt need to tell indigo flight wise to prepare a document with the details of the people who had booked date and amount paid and when did indigo refund the amount with the details. Also as a compensation for the hardship undergone by the customers a find to either 5 k to 10 k extra need to paid since they did not provide them food lodging or anything/ more
Govt took rupees 56 crores in electoral bonds from Interglobe aviation. Government needs to take strict action on itself! more
Sad state of affairs! Luggage should be immediately returned. Passengers in trains - senior citizen discount withdrawn and facilities reduced, and now with airlines, similarly suffering. Airports looking like railway stations. Not enough to cap air fare! Indigo and Tatas between them operate 92% flights and Indigo 62% - a duopoly. So when Indigo runs, and profitably so, the aviation market for the country, they can only with remarkably innovative cost cutting. If the government had to, the airline would be running losses, on taxpayers money -earlier Air India before selling to Tata! 7 airports opened in UP, Bihar and Jharkhand under udaan scheme are non-operational! The railways claim to run 1500 extra trains on Chhat and you have passengers inside toilets and drivers cabins overflowing the passenger coach seating and even standing capacity, as it could not! Government too must run more trains, and save the environment. more
The capping of air fares, as announced by the govt today, presumes that the airlines have the freedom to black-market their air tickets whenever an opportunity occurs. This is blatantly unfair to the fare paying passengers. It does not affect those travelling on company or govt duty. Finally, whether the mistake is made by the govt agencies or the airlines, it is the passenger who is the fall guy. more
