A CIVIC ISSUE THAT NEEDS URGENT, HUMANE ACTION -SAFE SHELTERS FEEDING AREAS FOR STRAY DOGS :

Much like GI tagging, we now see informal ‘ Stray dog ’groups forming for every block and street, yet the core issue remains unresolved. The primary attraction for stray dogs is the ABUNDANT ACCUMULATION OF GARBAGE, which provides easy access to food and encourages their flocking in residential areas.

They are rightly called “stray dogs”—with no legal owner. Not even dog feeders or dog lovers formally own them or take responsibility for them. By definition and by law, they qualify as stray dogs.

Hence, it becomes the duty of the administration to act decisively and humanely. These dogs must be impounded, and public announcements should be made through the press and other media. They should be kept under care for a reasonable period, during which individuals or organisations may ADOPT THEM AND OBTAIN THE REQUIRED LICENCE.

If unclaimed after due process, the administration must consider HUMANE EUTHANASIA (MERCY KILLING), strictly following veterinary and ethical guidelines. This is not cruelty; rather, it is a painless but necessary step to prevent greater suffering—for both humans and animals.

The urgency is evident when we consider reproduction. A single female dog, over its lifetime of about 10–12 years, can give rise to HUNDREDS OF OFFSPRING THROUGH SUCCESSIVE GENERATIONS OF FEMALE PUPPIES. Without population control, the problem multiplies exponentially (the word usd for Covid -19 spread), leading to INCREASED DOG BITES, ROAD ACCIDENTS, FEAR AMONG CHILDREN AND ELDERS, AND IMMENSE SUFFERING FOR THE DOGS THEMSELVES.

THIS IS NOT A QUESTION OF BEING ANTI-DOG OR ANTI-ANIMAL LOVER. IT IS ABOUT PUBLIC SAFETY, URBAN HYGIENE, PUBLIC HEALTH AND COMPASSIONATE GOVERNANCE. A STRUCTURED, LAWFUL, AND HUMANE POLICY IS THE ONLY SUSTAINABLE WAY FORWARD—FOR CITIZENS AND ANIMALS ALIKE. Jai Hind more

The main thing is to control stray dogs population. One method without harming them is to catch them temporarily and sterlize them with some kind of marking that the dog has been sterlized. India is a country where animals are worshipped and so ridding the roads of stray dogs is not a solution. However the underlying issue of stray dogs is a cause for concern. more
First of all stray dogs should be sterilised so that they do not spread rabies and also if gagged then identification becomes easy since when they give birth they multiply in no time and they search for food in the garbage dumped on the streets which should be avoided by so called resposible citizens.Hope this is an eye opener to all citizens to act more responsibly and not to throw garbage on the streets but only in far away designated places more
I fully agree with Mr. Jayakumar. Once for all it has to be decided both by citizen and our judiciary that whether animal life is more important than human lives. more
Good suggestion. Must be implemented. more
Yes I fully support the views. more
