10 times increase in road violation penalties

Attached is the revised chart applicable from March 1, 2025 where penalties have increased 10 times.

Wont this lead to more corruption? Or will it actually lead to more compliance?

Should be revisited and if an issue out LC manager must consider doing a survey on public experiences. May be in April. more

Increasing penalties will not stop violations. Educating violators initially and levying penalties would the right approach. more
The new penalty rates are not only exorbitant but also unrealistic. Considering that people in our country are not so well off, and majority of them may find the penalty beyond their paying capacity. Many who are unable to pay have to be sent to jail adding to lakhs of already pending cases in our courts. I think the concerned ministry has not properly worked on it and perhaps not discussed adequately with the stakeholders. Social scientists, road traffic experts and law and order machinery, police and legal experts should be consulted to find more practical ways to minimize road accidents and traffic rules violations. Now the time will indicate about the efficacy and practicality of the new rules. more
Govt is of opinion that either general public is rich enough or the they break rules intentionally. A good source of income.... more
Intent was to highlight that rates fines are being levied without considering paying capacity of persons whose family income is 20-30k and maintains a two wheeler for his job requirement. This may lead to corruption. An instance red light jumping which many a times due to poor positioning of lights, say behind a tree or ad and pressure from traffic behind you. more
Incidentally, in the majority of cases, the rules are broken intentionally. For example, using of helmets and/or seat belts is for our own security but majority of people avoid the use. Exirbitant hike in fine amount will certainly control the tendency. more
Take auto instead of self driving. more
Penalties should be based on moral and guilt factors, and not on capital issues. Let the government firstf improve traffic management and road safety before they start harassing citizens. more
