Maternity Law is leading to decline in Women Employment

Many of you via LocalCircles esp MSMEs and Startups have been quite vocal about how the Maternity Benefit Act which requires 26 months of paid leave for pregnant women employees will lead to reduction in Women Employment.
After LocalCircles raised these concerns with Labour and Employment Ministry, the Govt recently came out proposing to reimburse 7 of the 26 weeks of leave.

Below is the LocalCircles survey on the same and the results are concerning

The message of this post in the body above reads 26 months in line 2. This must be corrected to 26 weeks. more
The bill must have discussion with including opposition and it must have public opinion it must be reviewed and then must be passed. more
It is suggested that Maternity Benefit Act for giving 26 months leave is not advisable in the interest of the Nation. As Mr. CSN Sarma said above women could work light work till 8th month and all doctors say that it is advisable for them to work even physical work till their delivery in order to have trouble free normal delivery. Hence it is better to give the 12days before delivery and then for 6 months after delivery till the child is up to certain level. In fact all Offices, companies, factories which employ women must have creche /child care provisions in their work place. more
Maternity leave is very essential. But what is also seen is that after the ML is availed, the woman then proceeds on availing Earned Leave and then also some LWP. So effectively productivity is not there for more than a year. Therefore following suggestions:
1. Total cap of leaves permitted after taking ML should be capped
2. Paternity Leave can be a part of the whole package.
3. Too much of ML is proving detrimental to women in organized sector more
I have seen in number of Shops, the Ladies carrying 8 and 9th month also perform their Trade. more
And should be financed by the government. The couples enjoying the benefits should agree to ligation or vasectomy. more
