The complaints on the Indian railway are at its peak. there is no one really attending to it worth while. Only FIRST AID is carried out. since the people who use railways try to forget the problem once they have completed their travel is becoming a manure for the LAZy and irresponsible staff that decorate the railways all over India.
They are used to it and the tradition is passed down to the new recruits.
there is one solution to revamp the railways. Terminate thousands starting from the top down till the railway stations. replace them all for a few years with experienced EUROPEAN railway staff on deputation. say a contract for 5 years.
IR will improve to it peak.

Sir,
I agree with Shri Shankar Desai in that training our own staff with the sense of service is most important.
This must start with retraining present staff but more important and definitely start at recruitment stage. As. a matter of fact, I think this is applicable to all PUBLIC SERVICE recruitment up to level of INDIAN (Adm., Police, Foreign, Auxiliary, etc.) SERVICES. We must select only those candidates who have demonstrated flair for sense of service. All other requirements of education, experience etc. need be checked only after sense of service is satisfactory in Applicant. Probation period should be for two years and recruit should be working in two different divisions for a period of 1 year each. Very close monitoring of work and behavior of the recruit should be done and if not found suitable his/her services should be discontinued.
It is expected that about 10 - 15 % of recruits may be lost this way.

I am inclined to agree with Shri Tarun Kumar Banerjee (Professor) in that to keep constant efficiency, there should be no permanent staff.

Dear Dilip, I disagree with you. Railways privatization should start in phases and its a necessity. The resources available are under utilized / not utilized at all. Union Govt's Budget cannot meet the Revenue requirements of Railways. Railways being a Govt department, cannot tap the Private funds freely like any other Company. Its a vicious circle. Indians are more efficient and take more stress than any foreigners. this I have experienced being in private sector. How many of the signatories of this petition itself will welcome annual increase of the Fares by 5% p.a. There's a political angle to every action of Railways which is blocking its growth and exploring full potential. more

Indian Railway is the life line of India. Govt. should increase investment in it to lay more lines so that trains speed can be increased rather than privatized it. more

Absolutely rubbish idea. If after 70 years of independence we are looking for European railway staff it shows bankruptcy of our minds. And so far privatization is concerned one should not think that privatization will bring revolution.
To make railway batter there is need to train them batter and end corruption. more
