In Aundh area this has become a big headache. No mechanism to control encroachment of hawkers on the roads. Citizens are tired of complaining. No actions by PMC or Police because of interference of political local leaders. PMC officials take action on one day and next day scene is same. Need real military administrator to control this.
The PMC has done a survey of vendors. Next, PMC should take up participative street design which provides for good footpaths, space for vendors (who help provide very many products and also improve safety as 'eyes on the street'), trees, signage and utilities, as well as provide for waste collection services. Streets are community assets where multiple activities happen, keeping our cities alive and vibrant.
