I think this is the time, MMC has to think about step towards green Mangalore. The situation what Delhi is going through is should not repeat at Manglore... Offcourse we have lot of greenarys, same we have to maintain, mean while we have to implement sewage treatment plans. the important thing is we have to think, Wher we are , Compare to problem faced other city's of India.
City bus services are comparatively good. But have to set some rules for time keepers! Auto rickshaw availability for city remote areas have to be improved.
1. Mangaluru needs a proper and scientifically designed garbage recycling unit which can recycle 100% of the solid waste generated in the city. 2.It needs numerous small bioreactors like gobar gas plants which can treat the raw sewage generated by the residents so that the output is clean water and sludge which can be composted. Gas generated in these plants must be used for generating electricity to be fed to the grid. 3. Pot hole repairs need to be done at least three times a year and using proper techniques. 4. Roads need to be standardised with widths of 6, 10, 12 or 15 metres depending on the traffic flow. Conduits must be made under the foot paths for water and drainage and for all kinds of cables and wires so that they can be repaired or relaid with ease. The tarmac must be at least 6 metres wide and there must be space on the sides and a gutter at each end. 5. Roads must be properly marked and junctions properly designed so that one police man in the middle can control traffic with hand signals. Traffic lights preferably must be controlled by a cop, timing the change according to the traffic flow. 6. Road users, especially vehicle owners, pedestrians and others must be properly taught road etiquettes and violators penalised. 7.Haphazard dumping of trash and industrial waste must be stopped. Surrounding areas like Deralkatte, Vamanjur, etc are horrible with waste in plastic bags strewn all over the place. 8. Numerous vertical parking stacks need to be erected and parking at will on road sides must be stopped. Parking must all be paid for.
Poor junctions, unscientific road crossings, non-existent pavements, dysfunctional streetlights, rampant corruption in MCC. This city has a long, long way to go.
