Yoga will bring down rapes, says BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi. Another controversy.
If yoga comes into the life of every common people, it will help in bringing down incidents of rape in the country, veteran BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi said on Sunday.
In a remark that may spark a controversy, he also said that Muslims do yoga five times in a day and termed "Prophet Mohammad as the greatest yogi".
"I believe if yoga comes into the life of common people, then the daily incidents of rape, I would not say, they will cease to exist, but there will definitely be a decrease in them.

But these kind of statements provoke people. This same statement could have been rectified such as 'Yoga can reduce crime overall'. Because a disciplined person will not do any wrong thing (leave aside these dreadful incidents). A leader at this level represents the national ruling party, hence cannot make such remarks which give rise to controversies. more

In the Union Cabinet, there are a few women ministers which is a good work by Modi Ji's government. Likewise same should be followed in every state cabinet also. But certainly there should never be any quota or reservation, else it will defeat the basis of democracy. more

How effective would Yoga be in this context ? Yoga cannot teach self-discipline. Foremost thing is to stop oppressing women. Women should feel powerful from within. So Yoga applies to women, but again how effective will that be ? In a male dominated country like India, women are pawns everywhere. Unless this reduces, it (% of such incidents reported is quite low) cannot be controlled. Our leaders should always take the initiative in the right direction. more
