Usage of Refined Palm Oil

Most of us are not aware of the bad effect of refined palm oil with reference to heart health . India is the largest exporter of this oil. All the well known MNC & Indian corporates and Local Mittaiwala's are using this oil in lieu of traditional groundnut or Coconut oil. You can verify this next time when you buy & see the ingredient in Namkeens, Biscuits, sweets and other fried products . "Many nutrition experts are suggesting to avoid products with palm oil, palmolein oil or palmitic acid . It contains 50 percent triglycerides that are known to increase the risk of stroke, and heart attack as well. Regular consumption of palm oil hardens and thickens the arteries and increases the chances of heart diseases." Our children and this generation population is on the verge of developing Heart disease . Obesity is on the rise. Knowing this Government is not putting any curb on the import and usage of Palm oil. Refined oil itself is bad . Refined Palm oil further complicate the health issue . Why don't government intervene and take care of their own citizen by implementing a law to limit the usage of Palm oil? more

fssai should bring in a std ensuring that it is not used on products for consumption. For a starting there should be a warning on the label mentioning the bad effects and after that it should be banned more
It should be banned in food items more
India is the largest exporter of the oil or the largest importer? It's surprising that the government is not coming forward to phase out it's import and use by our people. more
Knowing very well the ill health effects of Palm oil, why does not India make an urgent beginning for phased replacement of this oil? Yes, the cost is important, but the health of the public is no less important. Similar example, all of us are seeing the continued efforts of the government to slowly reduce the automobiles pollution by upgrading the fuel from Bharat stage II to Bharat stage VI, and further to EVs. more
It's the fact that crude palm oil has a serious impact on health but refined oil may remove some harmful features. Palm oil is exported by only few Asian countries across the globe. India also made an attempt to initiate Palm tree plantation in Karnataka in late 80's but failed to succeed. Ban on importing such oil will invite acute shortage of edible oil in the country. We need to enhance our oil seed production in a time bound programme as the issue is quite old and yet no solution of it. more
