Swachh Bharat.

71% in survey say Swachh Bharat a flop in cities.

In what could be a wake-up call for the Centre to fix weaknesses in the Swachh Bharat initiative, nearly 71% respondents in an online poll conducted by a social media group feel cleanliness in their cities and towns has not improved much in the past one year and want a greater municipal-citizen connect.

The online poll on "local circles", which has over 3 lakh participants, provides a strong feedback that municipalities need a big technology and skill upgrade and need to improve actual delivery of sanitation services at the ground level. Involving citizens in the cleanliness drives as well as in advocacy will also help, the poll indicates.

Swachh Bharat mission was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 2 last year.

The poll has brought to light the big gap in capacity of municipal bodies, which are primarily responsible for collection, transportation and treatment of both solid and liquid waste in urban areas.

1. Negligence in treating with the daily house-hold wastes from Vegetables , Fruits & Food wastes. 2. Negligence in keeping the House & Road dry. 3. Municipalities not caring to lift bifurcated wastes . 4. Municipalities not caring to Fine & Punish those letting their House/ Apartment waters to and on the Roads & Foot Path areas. 5. We cannot control the Juice Shops ; Vegetable markets & Shops etc., to possess their own Top Covered Waste Bins [use me] Bins . more
We have municipalities in India who take garbage to remote villages and dump it there. A municipality is not needed for this. If a municipality cannot make its arrangement for waste disposal and waste recycling it is better that way. It is the duty of every municipality to install waste bins, urinals, toilets at public place and see to its disposal. If still public litters strict action should be taken against them. Just because public is littering doesn't mean a municipality shirk from its responsibility. more
Bangalore - the Doddaganesha temple - The day after the Ganesh Pooja. Small plates on which prasad was distributed was strewn near the temple premises, some with the prasad some without. Citizens need to understand that it is also their responsibility to maintain cleanliness in public places. They need to not clean the places, but at least can refrain from littering, throwing garbage etc. A municipal authority is not needed for this. more
We spent crores of Rupees on TV channels propagating cleanliness through celebrities asking the people to keep country clean. It does'nt take that much money to erect waste recycling plants in ever municipality/corporation/panchayath. Wait for Gandhi Jayanti you can see all celebrities coming out broom in hand cleaning cities. I wonder where these celebrities take these cleaned up waste as no recycling can be found nearby. more
