Surge Prices of Private Cabs

The private cabs such as Ola and Uber generate a lot of money from surge prices. These surge prices are generally present during normal peak hours of travel and it sometimes rises to around 4x of the normal prices. Can the government do something to remove these surge prices? Ola and Uber are here only because of the customers, and they have no right to charge passengers with high surge prices. more

Dear All, It's high time we fight against the high surge prices. I do not book a cab if there are high surge prices. I have been told by a driver that this is a ploy used by Ola and Uber drivers that they turn off their devices purposely and then turn it on after the surge prices have increased. Do not be cheated by them. Ola Micro fare starts at INR 6/km, but, I never find the cab at this rate as there are surge prices at all times throughout the night and day. Similarly with other cabs of Ola and Uber. Why should the customer suffer always? Why can't the local auto-rickshaws and taxi drivers agree to drop us for short distances? In this way, Ola and Uber will be needed to remove their surge prices. Do we have lots of spare money to waste in today's world on surge prices, which is just a form of troubling the customers used by Ola and Uber? We all need to understand this and be united in getting these high surge prices removed as they are just taking advantage of the innocent customers. more
Government should come out with proper guidelines to protect the consumers. more
I was in Bengaluru in March 2016. The government has debarred surge pricing by cab aggregators and it works well. I was in Hyderabad in April 2016. Surge pricing is allowed. But in the short period of my stay I heard surge pricing to the extent of 2.1. In Kolkata, the government does not work. It is incompetent to reign in cab aggregators. Here the surge pricing goes through the roof. I have heard 4.5 in Kolkata. I do not know if this is the highest. It is the local government who must routinely track, regulate, and penalize heavy handedness of the cab aggregators in public interest. It does not happen in West Bengal. Very sorry to narrate facts. more
transport department has already some guidelines for pricing during the day ; these taxi aggregators cannot exceed this price;/rates. more
