Most of the state transport buses are kept clean and neat in Tamil Nadu. We find passengers traveling in the buses throw the pet bottles on the roads and such bottles may cause accidents to two wheelers. An awareness has to be created on these aspects to all the users and service provider sides to make India clean as all of us want that to happen by 2019. more
In Chennai city service, most of the city buses are operated in the name of "Deluxe Bus". Fare in this bus is double the fare of ordinary bus plus one rupee. For example, the ordinary bus fare is Rs. 3 means, in the deluxe bus it is Rs.7/-. Only charge is double, bus there is no deluxe feature in the bus. This is just like cheating the passengers. Tiruvallur is a adjacent district head quarters town. Here state transport corporation is operating a ordinary bus as deluxe bus. (Route 518 Tiruvallur to Sriperumpudur). Duluxe buses will have pneumatic doors and low level platform and food board for the convenience of aged people. But state transport corporation buses are not having these features and such buses are operated with deluxe fare. This just like cheating. It should be avoided. more
State Transport Corporations shows losses but 95% buses run with full occupancy and short journey tickets are also not cheap. Corruption in Spare Parts procurement and hiring has affected operations. Unions affiliated to Political Parties have destroyed unity. This service must have profits on its own for survival. This is social program by govt and connects far flunged areas and required for last mile connectivity. more
Following points are offered 1 The level and reliability of bus services is often dependent on the quality of the local road network and levels of traffic congestion, and the population density. Services may be organised on tightly regulated networks with restrictions on when and where services operate. 2The buses should not be packed like sardines in a tin. Passengers should board as per permitted capacity 3 The frequency of buses to cope up to rush which can be monitored and coordinated for each net work route by call centre/ controllers 4,Latest technology to be used to improve the information provided to bus users, with vehicle tracking technologies to assist with scheduling, and to achieve real time integration with passenger information systems that display service information at stops, inside buses, and to waiting passengers through personal mobile devices or text messaging. more
The same drivers and operators behave very differently when they are on private rolls, simply because training, performance (cleanliness, timeliness, capacity utilisation, legal adherances and all clearances) is all linked to their salary or bonus. Transport undertaking will have to behave so that people start using buses. IT interface should be done when Red Bus can do it as an IT portal for all luxury buses, it can happen for state transport corporation. KSRTC and TNSRTC are good benchamark and Rajasthan is also a decent benchmark. If salaries are linked to revenues which is done in all private logistics business, public undertaking must do the same. Also BEST of Mumbai is far better operated though not ideal. We can also benchmark their practices too more
