State of Aviation in India – Root Causes
1. There is an increasing competition between airlines
2. Many Low Cost Carriers have emerged over the last few years
3. Increased air traffic has resulted in busy airports and delayed flights
4. Inadequate infrastructure at the airports and poor maintenance standards
5. Being in a Government job, the employees of Air India have a lack-lustre attitude
6. Employees lack professionalism
7. Rent for the food stalls at the airports are very high and hence the cost flows into the final price of the food
8. Budget carriers try to install maximum number of seats inside the plate
9. Low Cost carriers are mostly ‘no frills’ carriers
10. Long and erratic work hours hamper the attitude of the crew
11. At times, many passengers get unruly
12. Lack of awareness on part of the consumer
13. Consumer protection and redressal is very poor
14. No recognition for the airlines who show On Time Performance for a long time
15. Airlines try to cash in on the demand during festive season
16. Airport utilisation is not the most efficient in India
17. Political pressure leads to delay in flight take-off and undue subsidization
18. High taxes on most aspects of aviation make it a difficult operating environment for carriers and the service costly for citizens. more

Get professionals to run airlines, without any governmental interference, like Air India even if gov't continues to hold a stake in the form of a shareholder. Infrastructure in Air for safety is even more important that the state of the art airports we now have. Ensure connectivity from smaller airports to the bigger ones - build a hub system that can sustain the traffic. more
1. Govt should offer a stage wise support with equal or little higher contribution of the Company. 2. The Failing Industrial House should provide a matching Collateral of the EXTRA Support required. 3. Govt should appoint Experienced and Honest Directors at its Representatives to MONITOR DAY to DAY and also OVERALL supervision of the working of such Industry. 4. All the policy decisions should be after thread bare discussion at this level. 5. Periodic audit by Independent Auditors should be frequently and HONESTLY done to ensure movement of the Organisation in the right direction and corrections done in time. more
Weak Regulator and a Business overly commercial is at best a heady cocktail. more
There is high mortality in new ventures, Reasons are many but the basic flaws are (1) bad project planning (2) inefficient performance and poor utlilsation of resources (4) too much down time for each aircraft hence low rate of sorties per aircraft per day (5) wastages alround. In addition the projects are not properly scrutinized at the governmental level and by the nationalized banks with a view to their viability as well as the financial soundness of the proposed venture. more
WHEN IT IS A KNOWN MATTER OF FACT THAT AVIATION INDUSTRY IS RUNNING UNDER LOSS,THE GOVT NEEDS TO TAKE STEPS TO 1) SEE THAT NO AIRLINES COMPANY SHOULD BE CLOSED DUE TO OPERATIONAL LOSSES.2)THE COMPANIES ALREADY CLOSED OR ON THE VERGE OF CLOSURE,BECAUSE OF NEGLIGENCE OF PREVIOUS GOVT NEEDS TO BE REVIVED.IT IS NEEDLESS TO MENTION THAT IF AT ALL VOTE BANK POLITICS IS INVOLVED,IN THESE CASES,THE GOVT WOULD HAVE ARRANGED FOR DEBT RELIEF TO LOSS MAKING COMPANIES AND ALLOWED THE COMPANIES TO SAIL THROUGH.HOW MANY TIMES,THE EARLIER GOVTS GAVE DEBT RELIEFS RUNNING IN TO CRORES OF RUPEES TO SMALL FARMERS,DRI LOANEES ETC JUST FOR ELECTORAL POPULARITY?THE PRESENT GOVT BEING INDUSTRY FRIENDLY SHOULD DO ITS BEST TO SAVE ANY INDUSTRY UNDER DISTRESS.IF AT ALL ANY LITIGATION IS INVOLVED,OUT OF COURT SETTLEMENT SHOULD BE MADE TO SAVE THE INDUSTRY. more
