Why would you purchase an electric vehicle? Interesting poll. The Govt doesnt seem to be doing enough to promote this. Plus very few of us know enough about them. Everyone should vote and share if they will be buying electric vehicle and if not why not... more

At present it is too expensive, one should know how long the battery will remain charged, there should be more battery charging service centers like petrol pumps more
Apart from that existence of charging stations at regular frequency like petrol pumps along the roads, Reasonably acceptable charging time, reasonable cost of battery replacement when due are three prime factors which should weigh in the monds of the potential customers. more
The same doubts were raised when digital photos appeared. Over an year it took over such that, the biggest film maker Kodak went bankrupt. This is the pace of technology change. If you don't change, you go bankrupt like Kodak. Iceland has banned petrol and diesel cars. The days of IC engines are over and electric motor is the future. When the world is moving in that direction, here we are taxing electric cars. Without a low tax regime, who dares to invest in electric motors, battery research and development, driverless cars and so on. Most of the car majors are shifting to electric motors and fast charging technology. This is a chance to give stimulus to an emerging field and so the government will not loose anything by slapping a negligible (say 8%) tax on electric cars. The tax can be increased when market opens up in 1 or 2 years and the combustion engines disappear. more
Before investing in an option which is difficult to maintain, we should not be swayed in by the mere future technology. In a country where we can't make a computer or mobile battery of a tolerable standard (Of course very inferior quality is available without any satisfaction guarantee under "Make in India" option), it is a dream to have cheap and affordable replacement of spares and batteries which will be the lifeline of such vehicles. more
Too expensive to think of any payback and uncertain about recharge facilities and servicing. more
