Recent incident in Noida which lately became a news item reflects how senior citizen are harrassed. A retired army Colonel who happens to be a decorated officer was implicated in a false case and handcuffed with petty criminals. The details are in national dailies.
It reflects that a person of 77 years old living alone is a soft target for mighty. What is the safety of those whose children live in other cities for work or live abroad.
Are there any guidelines as to how citizen of advanced age should be treated or they can be left to fate.

As a first step, the Central and State governments should enable ON LINE REGISTRATION, RENEWALS, APPLICATIONS etc., etc., for ALL SERVICES with appropriate identity aspects for ALL including Senior citizens. I know pensioners aged 80 plus, who struggle going to pension offices to renew their "LIFE" Certificates. They are not stable, cannot walk without support and are hard of hearing. On Line services would greatly help them, with the assistance of their wards to accomplish their requirements. more

Sadly Senior citizens are not given any consideration at all in our Country. Take the case of roads. If a senior citizen is on a two wheeler or walking on the road, no consideration is shown by anybody particularly youngsters on bikes who drive as if to push them down. No prefference is shown while they are standing in queues. Senior citizens, even if they are unable, are expected to report in person to the banks to record their survival once or twice a year. No consideration is shown to any ailing people in areas where loud music or speech is played. True some consideration is shown by Government in Income Tax and in some public buses, but nothing more. A kind of education is required to make the young people aware of the inconveniences faced by the senior citizens. more

senior citizens should not be compelled to visit offices frequently. Like u.s.a. the govts in India should direct public servants to provide services on door of senior citizens. more
