Samsung engineer visit

I had brought a 46" LED HD tv from Samsung around 4 years ago from Banglore which cost me around 88k (during offer and original price above 1 lak). Recently I noticed a line at the centre of the display with a slight color change above and below the line. But I can use the TV normally and watch programs without any big problems. To me it looked like a display LED problem.
Just to be on the safe side, I called customer care and discussed my issue to which they advised me on some trouble shooting options. After doing what they had advised, I was told it might be a display problem and that they will arrange a service engineer which will cost me INR.300. I said ok to this and also asked the customer care not to send someone who is going to come and just tell me its a display issue which I already know, and they obliged.
So 2 days later the service person comes, looks at the TV and tells me, its a display problem and the display needs to be replaced. He takes his 300 and leaves.
So, what just happened?? Did Samsung just send a man to collect INR 300? I am lost.. A person comes and tells me something I and Samsung know, nothing extra and collects money. Isn't this daylight looting?
An expensive piece of equipment (for a common man like me) brought out of desire, lasts only so long?? It becomes faulty immediately after warranty period?? Is it so programmed?
And spare costs as much as the equipment itself? Is this the so called "Quality" of a branded product?
I am just going nuts thinking about my investment and return... What is Samsung trying to do here?
Can someone guide me on what to do next.. I just don't want to leave it to fate.. more

A TV unit today consists of a number of chips called integrated circuits. Only one such chip governs the display. Changing that particular chip should normally give redressal. I am writing this down because we ourselves have gone through such situations three times...... The Samsung service engineer may have mentioned this at one time or another..... more
Hi this is common problem with most of the brands. Only way is to educate each other and boycott such products so the manufacturer knows that he will also suffer because of this strategy and will act as a deterrent to manufacturers who are indulging is such Practices . more
All programmable products are designed to fail after the warranty period is over. There is an in built digital clock/timer that is referenced by the embedded program and does the needful when time is up. This is to guarantee sales. more
Right my lcd and ac gone in same way..I discarded both. And using other good brand.. People must be aware of poor quality of the Samsung..in my opinion any other brand are doing well in same segment with cheepaer rates. more
I have also faced similar problem with Samsung. My 5 year old Samsung double door refrigerator chillar tray brokem . I asked for replacement on payment. Customer care inform me it will be done, service engineer charges will be rs250/- . I agreed. There so called engineer came and saw and informed me that they have stopped manufacturing these. He took rs250/ and gone . They charged rs 250 for informing me this. more
Sir, Warranty is on Compressor and not on plastics. Just look for any local compatible tray and avoid calling customer care. more
