Robbery in UBER cab
I, Vishnu Swaroop Maheshwary, want to report an incident as under:
I alongwith my wife Sarita Maheshwary had taken Uber from Tagore Park, Delhi – 110009 to Ambience Tiverton, Sector 50, Noida – 201301 on 1st July 2026 at 10 pm.
The taxi no. was UP 12 CT 9736. The driver name was Shubham and his personal telephone no. is 6397604325. On vehicle, the car owner name is mentioned as Jitendra, Village Durganpur, Budhana, Muzaffarnagar, Mob : 8979543738. Near Mayur Vihar Phase I Bus Stand on Akshardham Noida Main Road, a man on motorcycle signaled the driver to stop claiming that there was an issue with the cab. Despite our objection, the Uber driver stopped the car. As soon as the driver opened his door, another man from the roadside came and opened rear left door of our cab, snatched my wife’s purse and escaped on the motorcycle. The purse contained her mobile phone, debit card, house keys, cash around Rs. 85,000/- and other her belongings.
We went to the Mayur Vihar Police Station in the cab itself to file a complaint.
We do not know why the Uber driver Shubham stopped the cab on the road despite our objection resulting in the incident.
We believe there is a serious possibility of nexus between rhe Uber driver and this gang of robbers as despite our clear disapproval for opening the door he did so.
My wife is still under shock and so am I. Both of us are heart patients and senior citizens in late seventies.
We need Uber to take immediate action on the matter and reimburse us for the loss we have incurred and the tremendous distress this incident has caused.

Thank you everyone for all the support extended Uber had responded back saying, they are thoroughly investigating in this matter and needed some time. We are giving them time till Monday evening, i.e.,20/07/2026, after that we will escalate the matter with the ministry of Home affairs and also the ministry of Road transport. This should not only go to uber but Govt of India home ministry to ensure taxi platforms have serious safe guards built in their training and cab driver on boarding so such dangerous acts to senior citizens cant be orchestrated by drivers. Also what happened to emergency button/phone in cabs. more
