Dear Friends:
Below is a summary of the key Root Causes outlined by you in the area of Road Safety.
Kindly review them and help identify Solutions to these Root Causes. We will then compile Issues, Root Causes and Solutions in a whitepaper and submit it to PMO, Ministry of Transport and all other associated ministries.
I greatly appreciate your patience and participation in this process. It takes time from inputs collection, collation, submission to some Government action. However, we as citizens are giving the collective overview of Issues to the Government along with solutions which will make Government plans/actions/spending much more effective than it has been in the past.

Road Safety – Root Causes
1. No Government cap on number of new vehicles allowed on road per month/ per year
2. Non enforcement of existing laws
3. Lot of people don’t even understand half of the road signs since they are not educated on it
4. People have a ‘me first’ mentality on roads
5. Pedestrian crossings are missing in many places
6. Drivers don’t respect the pedestrians
7. Parents promote underage driving
8. Cycling not a priority for the Government and not taken into planning while designing the roads
9. Zebra crossings are not clearly defined
10. Footpaths are occupied by street vendors
11. Pedestrian signals don’t work properly on traffic signals
12. Encroachment along the road by parked cars leaves less space for the drivers
13. No power backup for traffic signals
14. Meager fines for violating traffic rules
15. Easy to bribe and get a driving license from the RTO
16. Lethargic public transport across the country
17. Roads are not maintained properly, especially during the monsoon season
18. The most common driving rules or norms are not clearly taught or clearly learned
19. Ignorance of weather conditions and terrain while driving
20. Loud music inside air-conditioned cars leading to Driver's inability to hear the warning horns
21. Repeat offenders get free by bribing
22. Drunk Driving offenders are not dealt strictly with.
23. Driving schools don’t teach the basic road rules
24. No street lights on a lot of busy streets more
