Rise in Blood Sugar Level after Viral Fever

I am a diabetic patient(Type II) since last 15 years with age of about 69 years. Normally I had good control o diabetics with sugar fasting around 120 and Hba1c of around 6. Last month I had viral fever. After which my fasting sugar spiked to 227 and Hba1c to 8.5. I was earlier on Amaryl 2 mg (morning) 1mg (evening) with Trajenta 5 mg in the evening. To control sugar I have increased evening Amaryl to 2 mg. Doctor says if it is not controlled then I will have to be shifted to Insulin. Though after 1 week of my increasing dose it has come down to 167, I am still worried whether insulin will be a better option.

Because of viral my shoulder joint pain is persisting even after 1 month.

Can I look forward to some suggestions from my group members.

Thanks more

No doubt Insulin is the best option to control blood sugar levels. For fixing dosage it will take time. Endocranolgist will look into the matter. You better check sugar level FBS,before lunch and before dinner continously for three days and then approach the doctor. He will fix the dosage. Regarding shoulder paid it might be because of diabetic freezing. consult Physiotheripist. the problem will be solved. more
Many many thanks for the views of all group members. I have increased my walking and doing rigid diet control. I think I should be able to have abetter control of my BS more
Sunilji, I have very good experience with ayurveda treatment and changed diet and supplements. Start walking & and/ also yoga exercises. Try pranayam, meditation so to be connecting mind with body helping body. Eat water soaked almonds, soya beans, black eye beans, sun flower seeds & boiled in pressure cooker with Chena (cottage cheese) in breakfast so to be not weak inside. Instead of increasing the dose of Amaryl, start morning walk & evening walk, this will significantly control our blood sugar without changing the dose of any oral hypo hypoglycemic agent. more
Diabetic patients will have shoulder joint pain due to long diabetes and formation of calcium around joint. Consult yr doctor and an orthopaedic and on their advise start physiotherapy. It will give relief. I also had frozen shoulder and it has taken around 5 to 6 months of vigorous physiotherapy to become normal when I am around 45 years. Now I am 64 and so far did not have the same problem. Daily I do little exercise for shoulders and legs so that they will be in fit condition. more
