A retired judge has recently called for reconsidering the relevance of Rajya Sabha which was welcomed by a Union Minister. The Rajya Sabha has become a stumbling bloc in the transformation initiatives by the present Government. As the Rajya Sabha members are mostly political beneficiaries they cannot provide any value addition to the development agenda. By abolishing this superfluous body, the country could save huge amount of tax payers money. more
So if the second house did not prevent anti constitutional laws, what use are they? Is it not the function of the President of India, to ensure that laws are within Constitutional boundaries? This duplication of jobs delays laws and has no beneficial attributes. Agree that Rajya Sabha is non essential. As things stand, the Rajya Sabha has to pass the law that will make them redundant!!! What are the chances? more
Every structure of the government is been framed for performing certain functions. The problem is that those functions are not being performed in a right way. If a member completes is 6 years in rajya sabha he has to be given pension, this system is not being taken as big issue. Most of the members are famous personalities eg. sachin tendulkar is also a member of rajya sabha once as of I know. I have a doubt whether he is also getting pension???? If some one answer for this I would get the right idea about rajya sabha members. more
