Rain Water Being Wasted?
Marathwada which was facing drought this summer is now facing floods.
It is surprising that no efforts are made to harvest rain water and direct it to recharge ground water year after year.
Another disturbing fact is that Environment Ministry is opposing linking of rivers which is the badly needed for our country.
Our aim should be not to allow a single drop of rain water go waste as it is the most valuable resource given to us by Mother Nature.
Even in Mumbai BMC is not making any efforts to direct rain water to catchment areas or for ground water recharge, and simply issuing statement that catchment areas are getting poor rain. more

Some States and Some Regions still are not stepping ahead since last year like the new Telangana and the new Residue Andhra Pradesh States . These two States got reasonable achievement in bringing up the ground water through the first phase of Ponds , Tanks and Reservoirs . There is absolute necessity to Resurvey and and even form new Streams , Channels , ponds , Tanks and Reservoirs with the best shared interlinking of Rivers and Canals . The States are to be compulsorily inspired about this need calling for even voluntary land apportionment in case of Agricultural Areas . more

It is very surprising to see that no efforts are made to store rain water. Existing water harvesting facilities will raise subsoil water level. But that is not sufficient to cater the water requirements throughout the year. All the rain eternal had gone to the sea. The huge rain water would have been preserved in big reservoir. Even though the PM had rightly indicated that rain water of this monsoon shall be preserved and all efforts shall be made to. Save rain water as far possible. But surprisingly no efforts are made by the state Adminstration to store huge rain water. We are very sad to see such a wastage of God gifted rain water. That is why it is correct to say that we are responsible for all our sufferings and asking for for help which is synonym of begging is our habit. more

In my opinion, first we should focus on delinking of drains from the rivers & ancient water bodies, cleaning of Ganga, Yamuna & other rivers in south. There must be a national regulation for Rivers, Highways & Railways, that at least 200 meters on both sides no habitation, Commercial activity or industry to be allowed for safety reasons. more

I agree with Mr. Pande but why Environment Ministry should object to the linking of rivers?? For linking of rivers there may be short term damage / disturbance to the environment which can be made good by re planting the green belts along, we must realise the potential of this project which will 1. Not only support the sustainable development but will the harbinger of another green revolution 2. also it can bring down the cost of transportation all along the river network. 3. which will further reduce the pollution & reduce our national carbon footprint. 4. It will reaffirm & strengthen our national commitment towards reducing of global warming. more
