predatory pricing by airlines

During the ongoing unrest at Haryana, several people have been held up as well unable to plan their visits owing to road blockade. This part of the country including New Delhi is usually commuted by roads or trains. There is only one commercial airport and which is at Chandigarh- far away from the most affected area of unrest.
During these trying times, the airlines have jacked up their prices vertically. The usual fares are around Rs 4000/passenger and tickets were sold from as high as Rs 30000/40000 to Rs 99000 (multiple flights) for travel on Sunday and today morning.
Airlines are seeing this as an opportunity and milking the common person some of whom has to take the mode of travel owing to compulsion.
What can be the way out of this by having a cap on the maximum fare in any sector for any airline? more

It is within the Charter of duties of DGCA to regulate air fares. Why they did not or do not do it is evident. While Modi Cabinet is clean, the same cannot be said for the Babudom. more
Govt should put a ban on auction system of airlines for booking flights trains do not have it so why should airlines. more
Yes, it is the government to immediately step in and cap the prices with warning to the air liners to desist from encashing such unfortunate occasions or to face the consequence. In fact what is the purpose of a government if they are unable to stand by such genuine causes to mitigate the public sufferings? more
i believe the government should step in, as the licences have been given keeping in mind the public. Hence there should be some sort of regulation. Would it be prudent to keep quiet when a bottle of water is sold for Rs.1000...then the govt. steps in to prevent black marketing and rank profiteering...Airlines are flying because the people represented by the Government are allowing them to fly...time to mull over it... more
