Post Diwali Weight Loss - ET

Diwali is the time of year that fitness buffs dread the most. It is when the strongest succumb to temptation. Now that the celebrations are over, it's time to get back to work and in shape. A few tips to regain your shape:

START LIGHT It makes sense to keep your breakfast light. Pile as few calories as possible when you start your day. "Consider having a bowl of fruit and vegetable salad. Not only are they easy to digest, but all the fibre will help burn fat deposits," suggests wellness consultant Shikha Sharma

KEEP COFFEE, TEA AND COLAS AT BAY If you can avoid these three, you are cutting down on a considerable amount of calories. Mansi Chatrath, director and chief dietician for Natural Health Care Clinic, says: "Instead of consuming coffee and tea, the more sensible choices would be lemon water, fresh juice or jaljeera"

PICK A SMALL PLATE Pick a small plate as it will help you stay light. The same goes with spoons, glasses and bowls. Also, avoid second helpings. And don't forget the simple rule — eat slow!

THE MAGIC OF WATER Have half a cup of water every hour. Not only will it help in flushing out toxins, but it will also fill you up keeping those unwanted cravings at bay

SUBSTITUTE DESSERTS WITH DRY FRUIT Do not torture yourself by refraining from eating that routine dessert you are so used to after dinner. Experts recommend having nuts in place of desserts

SWEAT IT OUT! Nutritionist and health consultant Karishma Chawla says, "Don't bring yourself to a point where you have to say 'I wish I had'. Taking out an hour to burn some of those calories at the gym will ensure smooth sailing"

GREEN TEA Continue your affair with green tea as it is a very good antioxidant. Even if you are going out, ask for green tea instead of colas or tea or coffee more
