Policing in India - Key Issues

Dear Friends

In our review on Legal and Judiciary reforms, some of you had asked for a focused discussion on Police.

So via this post, we ask every member to list the issues they have faced/experienced with the Police in India.

Once we identify all the issues, we will work on Root Causes and Solutions and submit the collective citizen whitepaper to the Home Ministry and various States interested in having their police be Citizen Oriented.

I look forward to your inputs!

Since it is state issue & central govt cannot do anything, at least BJP ruled states must immediately recruit policemen to bring the ratio in comparison with other good countries. There must be good fitness of policemen to wither tough working conditions. In reward to this hardship attractive salary to them to maintain themselves. Strong SOP which must be followed under given circumstances to avoid ambiguity in decisions, CCTV in all places where police is present, Better working conditions, Less political interference. Strong accountability. Any proved wrongdoing they must be sacked including forfeiture of their retirement benefit. Implement the recommendations of various committees constituted on this more
