Policing in India – Issues
1. Police forces lack sensitivity
2. There is no transparency in the working of police
3. There seems to be a nexus between police, politicians and the criminals
4. Traffic police take bribe for letting go of challans
5. Police doesn’t file the FIR easily
6. Misuse of authority by police personals
7. Slow in inducting technology in maintenance of records, crime control
8. Most of the constables/head constables are not physically fit
9. Bribes taken on Passport and other verification
10. Rough and arrogant attitude of police in general
11. Policemen don’t know all rules, policies and the law themselves leading to poor implementation
12. They are still doing paper work on files and registers in this digital age
13. Policemen are not educated enough
14. Ratio of policemen vs public is low

Policing in India – Root Causes
1. The state has no control over the police
2. Politicians influence the working of the police department
3. Vigilance over traffic police is weak
4. FIR is not filed to reduce accountability
5. A lot of authority is vested in the police officers
6. The department still follows the old ways of working
7. Staff not trained enough to use technology
8. No reviews of physical fitness required
9. Department fears change; still comfortable with doing paperwork instead of using computers
10. Many traffic policemen are lazy; they just stand in the shade and are indifferent to traffic violations taking place right in front of them
11. The working conditions of police department, especially lower in the ranks is pathetic
12. There is no career path of a police man in lower ranks. So no motivation to work hard and rise up like private sector or even public sector
13. Most police men recruited either have political connection or pay huge bribe. Hence they try to recover their investment by taking bribes
14. Lack of adequate training to police force
15. There is no effective grievances redressal mechanism in a time bound and independent manner
16. Their job is tough and they are not paid very well more
