Please come forward. Let us address a very critical challenge Cancer patients are facing today

My apologies for a longish message. I think this is necessary to explain the gravity of issue I want to share with you and therefore would humbly request a patient reading from your end.

My Background

I am a 44 year old Chartered Accountant based out of Faridabad, India, diagnosed with Blood cancer three years back.

My Mission

My ongoing ordeal with cancer motivated me to take the fight head-on with the disease, both for myself and for others. I started interacting with other patients, counseling them to the best of my capabilities and/ or helping them connect with someone who can further help them. During last two years, I have managed to network with approximately 70 oncologists located in different parts of the country and many of them are willing to help me in the mission.

I came up with my website www.winovercancer.net last year where I have been posting my blogs for the benefit of the mass. Currently we are counseling around 6-7 patients or their relatives every week.

What I am looking for:

During this entire duration of two years now, I have identified one basic issue, in addition to the concern for survival, hounding cancer patients and their dependents. The biggest challenge for a cancer patient is financially sustaining himself and the family during and post treatment

The long duration of treatment and rehabilitation process makes the patient immobile for a long period. In the process, he is out of job/ profession, blocking financial inflows. Lack of adequate medical security in countries like India ensures that the patient's savings are drained out during treatment. I have met hundreds of patients who have been forced to stop treatment or resort to untested alternate medicines as a scape.

Subsidy or grants are not a solution to the issue. The real solution lies in helping these patients/ families self sustain by offering them alternate earning opportunities. They are already in such a deep distress that they lose the thought process and often surrender to destiny. Someone has to motivate them, train them and employ or deploy them.

There are so many "work-from-home" type opportunities available in the global market in different sectors. Unfortunately, most of them are fragmented, un-organized and scam tainted and therefore people often do not get the confidence of using them.

I am looking for big global corporates to come forward and offer some of such opportunities to these people. This will be a win-win situation for all. It will allow patients to be mentally "out of" the treatment blues and think positively. For the corporates, it will ensure better community participation and increase in brand value.

Once a patient has recovered from the disease, the next big challenge he faces is to re-induct himself into the system. Unfortunately, still a lot of people, irrespective of their cultures and geographies, still consider Cancer a taboo and are resistant to hire their services due performance and sustainability concerns. We need to address this issue urgently.

I am pretty much sure, a sustained effort in this direction will help the patient combat the disease with a far more positive mindset and can save a lot of dollars in the form of grants and aids which can be deployed to other meaningful purpose.

I can be available for a further discussion on the matter any time.

Many thanks for a patient reading. more
