Petrol and Diesel Pricing

I would like to raise the issue of completely opaque pricing and profiteering on petrol and diesel by even the state owned oil companies. This is an absolute misuse of freedom from price control that the government had granted them. This adds greatly to the vows of the consumers who currently have no other viable option/source for meeting their demands, when the prices of fuel in India are already among the highest in the world .
A case in point is the recent increase by 2 paise per litre, when across the previous two fortnights, the International Brent crude prices hovered below $54 per barrel and the rupee strengthened significantly. By all counts therefore, the prices of bothe petrol and diesel should have been lower by at least Rs. 2/- per litre . All the national papers of the previous two days had also reported the likelihood of prices being reduced.
I do hope that the Government is listening with the setting of prices being made more transparent and a regulator being appointed to protect the consumers. more

Yes Mr Purohit you are right in asking pricing formula for petroleum products Probably the Government had planned a buffer to meet with situations when there is a sudden shoot up in prices Reasonably priced product will take care of increased consumption which can become unmanageable more
Several people have come up in support of the high prices of oil products. My main issue with the pricing was in relation to opacity. we all know that the prices are dependent on cost of production/import , refining cost plus taxes etc. But the major determinants in all this are the taxes, import price, the exchange rate INR to US$ and perhaps the refining cost; combined they would be upwrads of 75 % . When all the above three are going down or are unchanged, ie. the taxes, what I would like to know is what makes the prices go up? Even the cross subsidy component is now steadily going down as per the Govt.'s own statements, due to increase in DBT scheme, increase in kerosene prices and denial to subsidise the LPG to IT payers. We may also recall that when the price of petroleum had dropped steeply to mid 20$, the GoI had moved very quickly to "stabilize" the prices by a steep hike in excise duties. At that time we had thought that this increased kitty will be later on be used as buffer to reduce the price volatility. All I ask for is the transparency in pricing so that the citizens are at least aware of where their money is going. more
Fully endorse what Dhirendra Bhandari as mentioned in his one liner. So true. I share his sentiments on this matter but would definitely like to know why does India have such expensive petrol and diesel etc? What about all the government vehicles that run on free/complimentary fuels? I have seen drivers of these so called Babus in power sell a good part of there fuel because the drivers drive in limits. more
Nobody asked for the import rate from the government for 70 years and total expenses on import of crude oil....then you know the pricing & inefficiency....we only know 30% extra price for petrol is for subsidy on Diesel.....Regards On Wed, 03 May 2017 11:38:03 +0530 "Nandkishore Purohit" wrote > more
