Passport, Visa and Immigration - Inputs on Key Issues
Dear Friends:
One of the areas highlighted for US-India to work together was in easing Visa and Immigration Requirements.
With this post, we would like all members to list key issues faced by them with regards to Passport, Visas and Immigration.
Once we know the issues, we will follow our structured methodology to review Root Causes and Solutions with the objective of submitting a comprehensive whitepaper on the subject to the Ministry of External Affairs and other Government stakeholders so necessary actions can be taken to simplify things for Citizens of India in this area.

firstly talking about passport the online filling u form, taking appointment is the best thing but once we reach at the passport office there are people shouting at the entrance of office having quarrel with security. this should be closed people who have there appointment should be allowed inside and tight security to be present where no one can shout and obey the rules. there has to token given to each person who is entering the office as per there requirement which is missing. a proper helpdesk to be present at the entrance which should sort out the problem by giving proper information and should then issue token accordingly. more

Visa process is also a problem, I do not know WHY. If someone takes Visa of any country (stamped in India) and go abroad then immigration agencies at the airport take lot of time. This is why, it is a common notion that people prefer Visa on Arrival (Tourist / Transit), because that is relatively faster at Departure time also. more

Biggest problem is that passport officials do not make good use of the computer driven software system that is given to them. These officials are though trained on this software, but they hardly know the details and often struggle with the software systems. That is why there are often mistakes in the passport data of an individual. From my own experience, I uploaded the scanned copies of all the supporting documents in the online portal before going to Passport Seva Kendra. But to my surprise, the passport officials did not even knew how to fetch those documents. Eventually I had to request their manager to guide them for the same. It was embarrassing and also increased the wait time for people behind me in the queue. Further they even asked me to submit hard copies also. Fortunately I had the hard copies also with me at that time. And to add to my dismay, this entire team was being outsourced to the leading IT company of India i.e. TCS. So if they are working in this mode, what can we expect from the government professionals ? Something is seriously wrong in government functioning, which needs to be integrated with efficiency. more
