We had visitors from Chennai recently who recounted that Onions were selling at Rs.100/- a KG there. Remember one BJP MP had led a show of Gifting a hamper of Onion to the then CM of Delhi - Sheila Dixit as the prices then had gone over Rs.60/-. Now the shoe is on their foot and we have people defending them in the circle itself. A Sorry state of affairs for most states who had high hope from this Government. more
why only onions. veggie prices are on fire potatoes now over 2 months are selling for rs. 40 - 45 a kg from 25a kg green capsicum rs. 145 -150 a kg from rs.75-80 a kg french beans rs. 100 a kg from rs 80 a kg. tomatoes have cooled down a bit from 70-80 a kg to rs. 50-60 a kg. This is when life give you lemons(from rs.90 to rs. 120 a kg) more
Onions are usually not easy to get during certain seasons. This is mainly because there is inadequate storage facilities for such projects. Only now is last 4-5 years action has been taken to increase the storage facilities substantially. Of course the price of Rs. 60 per kg is not the price at which Onions are available at Mother Dairy booths. They are substantially cheaper at Mother Dairy veg stores more
