Government has made a welcome move of bringing the health insurance premia in ‘zero’ GST applicability. However, the reality/corporate picture is very different. For renewal of my health insurance premium, I contacted my (private) insurance company. The feedback was shocking. At lower levels, people did not know whether to charge NIL GST or not. At higher levels, they told me that since it is a group insurance policy (Purchased through bank etc.), full (18%) GST will be applicable! It is not clear whether government has categorised these two into group & individual policies and whether only individual policies are covered under NIL GST. It is not understood, why the government should make such distinction, as there are many senior citizens who purchase group health insurance policies due to relatively lesser premium (As everybody knows, these premia have shot up significantly after Covid-19). Can anybody clarify? I hereby appeal to the government to include group health insurance policies under NIL GST category, if not categorised earlier. more
In short, zero GST on health insurance premiums reduces costs for citizens and makes insurance more accessible — a move likely to benefit both individuals and the healthcare ecosystem. more
ITS THE MOST INSANE THING THEY COULD HAVE DONE to continue 18% on Group Insurance, no rationale no logic just pure money making endevour. Next will come GST on burial chargesI was compelled to pay the 18% GST in order to save the NcBof 50% on a 10lakh cover. They want to literally suck our blood for the exchequer. See this is what happens when there is No Application of Mind by FM and GST Council members and they blindly approve whatever is placed before them by Bureaucrats.
