News of PLASTIC RICE :
Sirs , this has been has been been the topic past fortnight . A Panic situation is created among the public , particularly the lower and middle strata of the society. Initially I thought it was mistaken for the sticky rice people eat in Korea and far east . It will be sticky unlike our rice and paid no heed to the alarm .
Later ,seeing the Video in Tamil I was also quiet alarmed . And look at the ball of rice it bounces like a rubber . Rice made into balls will slash and will never bounce .
I got this information from a knowledgeable source :
"In Cambodia, people eat sticky rice. That is actually very sticky in nature. Plastic rice is not sticky and is rubbery and it bounces back like a rubber ball according to that lady in the video. I remember to have seen some video in WhatsApp where the plastic rice is made in CHINA . They mix some chemicals and make thin plastic rods which are then cut by a machine in the shape of rice grains. Even meat is made in a similar way from inorganic substances. You get boneless meat."

The claim of plastic rise is false. 1. If left aside cooked rice will spoil because of germination or fungus. Plastic will not. Any body can leave it aside and in open and check 2. one KG plastic is costlier than rice. with processing and shaping it will be more costly. No one will do business for loss. more

i, too, have seen these videos. But i am pretty sure you can differentiate between real & plastic rice while cooking as well as while eating. Can "cooked" plastic rice me mashed? has anyone who claims to have come across plastic rice tried it? more

I saw a similar video for plastic sugar crystal. The sugar dissolves but plastic sugar crystals do not. The cubes vanish when heated beyond 70 degrees C. This is just adulteration and user has to take care. Years back there were rice wheat and dal look alike stones used for adulteration. In kiran stores we often would get moist sugar, moisture increases the weight. Ghee was very commonly adulterated till Amul came (I think it has stopped now. Oil of cheaper variety is often mixed with more expensive oil, this became easier after refined oils came. Similarly, masala like haldi powser, dhaniya-jeera powder, mirchi powder etc were routinely adulterated. We now have plastic adulterants. more
