Most mangoes in Hyderabad carbide ripened

The widespread menace of carbide-ripened fruits, responsible for causing arsenic and phosphorous poisoning, came to the fore once again on Monday with the authorities cancelling the licences of 91 fruit shops in the Kothapet fruit market for using it.
While traders took to the streets in protest against the move and threatened to shut down the market from Tuesday onwards, agriculture minister Jupally Krishnarao rushed to the spot to pacify the angry vendors.

The minister reasoned saying that action was taken as the fruit-sellers have been avoiding repeated warnings from the authorities.

Artificially-ripened fruits can cause headaches, nausea, fever, gastric issue, ulcers and even skin rashes.Hundreds of trucks carrying mangoes were barred from entering the market on Sunday night. Farmers said that if the fruits were not unloaded by Monday , they will get spoilt and hence, result in massive losses for them.

The authorities managed to convince vendors and farmers to keep the wholesale fruit market open.

Meanwhile, insiders ad mitted that most of the fruits available in city markets are chemically ripened.

“Farmers are in a hurry to sell off their produce. So, carbide is used to ripen and sell them in the fruit market. The fruits are ready to be consumed. We cannot really store them any longer,“ said a vendor. Farmers and traders resort to artificial ripening to avoid over-supply at a particular time that can lower the prices. Since the actual time to have mangoes is by the end of April or beginning of June, traders indulge in this practice to meet the supply at the off season and do some business. Vendors at Moazzam Jahi Market (MJ Market), who purchase their stock with borrowed money or on credit from the wholesale traders at Kothapet fruit market, will also get affected, some fruitsellers said. The sale of fruits at Moazzam Jahi market dropped by 70% during demonetisation. more

It is the piety , the Governments of Telangana and the residue Andhra Pradesh State could not arrest this dangerous process though the High Court repeatedly commented , advised and directed to arrest . Even the Low Sodium Salt and Chilli Powder are processed with powders and adulteration which is also creating the roots for chronic abdominal deceases and immediately to be brought under a separate Section with severe punishments to both businessmen and also the area Food and Drug Inspectors . Supreme Court also is to take interest on such issues of Food and Beverages for the sake of reducing chronic and repeated deceases to the Citizen paying . more
Where is the Government ? more
Consumer resistance against artificially ripened fruits and painted vegetables is the only solution. How and to what extent the government and the police can fight such malpractices is anyone's guess. If a simple method can be found to detect artificially ripened fruits and painted vegetables, then the consumer can protect himself. I had complained to the FSSAI about blue painted head cabbage in Rythu Bazaar, MVP Colony, Visakhapatnam but no reply is received.I tried to complain to the C.P.'s office but was declined. more
artificially ripened fruits can cause cancer and many chronic problems, and should be avoided, and culprits severely punished. more
Really funny that the debate is still continuing .. i see another side to this :) :) :) Mr Samosa is inventing new ways to promote Mango party ... really loving this now .. people just jump in and post what they face and feel after buying / or trying to buy the king of fruits, without verifying facts ...... where is arsenic .. where is phosphorus poisoning in carbide? When you guys eat banana ripened with the same agent every other day .. you didn't realise this? Or is it something to do with the price? Isn't this all about market economy? Everyone wants to make money and ripe banana sells more than the raw ones ... you don't want to eat .. fine .. plant a tree and wait for 10 years .... but if a half literate posts a copied section from another blog without even verifying facts ..... Go buy mangoes of this season ( not the ones from last season and wash it well with water and eat it without fear ) ..... Fruits cannot store arsenic ... and arsenic levels in water can be reduced (wherever they are) by planting Ferns around the water table .... Its simpler and cost effective too .... But please .. fruits can never cause arsenic poisoning ... secondly phosphorus cannot be accounted for unless phosphonic acid is used as ripening agent ... Indians usually have this weird ideas about what they consume .... react violently without verifying and then feel sorry after done with the act .... Please ask the lady who posted this farcical plagiarized portion to prove that mangoes create arsenic poisoning if carbide is used as agent .... What about the new fad about organic food and vegetables? Its night soil which is used ... is that okay for you guys? ... If chemicals are not okay then how come night soil used in so called Organic items become Okay? If these organic items are not thoroughly cleaned you might end up with blood dysentery. Pesticides and other chemicals used can be washed off in running water or if we dip these in water for 30 mins.... But anyways .. the concern should be about artificial colors used in vegetables (to make them look fresh) colors used in turmeric powder, in red chili, pepper and so on ... but mangoes? :) :) Mr fake crusader of Delhi must be very happy that his gimmick style is spreading ... more
