Mineral and Vitamin Deficiency in Kids and Adults

I am concerned about Vitamin D deficiency in both my kids and myself and calcium deficiency in my husband's diet.

Understand that for kids vitamin D def can result in negative affect on growth. What is the best solution, preferably a natural one.

Also for people who don't drink milk or eat cheese, is supplements the only way for calcium intake.

Look forward to your advise! more

I don't think so. Giving supplements to the kids is not good. Shikha you can experiment with the milk products. Try to give them a new form so the children may take it. exposure to sun definately helps. more
Supplement is the only option if one is not taking the milk or milk products in required dosage. As suggested supplements of Calcium with Vit D3 is necessary for Calcium absorption. more
I completely agree with all the three comments. Earlier I used to avoid morning walk in the sun during summer. After experiencing the walk in the sun with the positive bent of mind, the approach has changed. Now I ensure that I go for walk at 7.30 AM in a park which is partly covered with trees and remaining is full of sun light. For senior citizen, the duration of exposure should be longer as the absorption is slow because of natural wrinkles. more
Best natural source of vit. D is sunlight. If children play outdoors for half an hour each day in morning or evening, it should provide enough Vitamin D. But applying sunscreen hinders the skin in manufacturing the vit.d. people who do not drink milk, yogurt or buttermilk(chhachh or mattha) is better option. For growing children who are fussy about eating fruits & veggies, supplement containing cal mag D is beneficial more
Yes this is true, sitting in sunn does help. Take your children out in the sun when sun rises but not at its peak. summer timings- 5:45-6:30.kindly share the age of yourself, husband and kids? will advise acc to that more
